CT Installation Guide: Figure 1: Typical Cts Being Used

The document discusses current transformer (CT) installation for solar energy monitoring and metering configurations. It provides examples of typical CT placements for single phase, three phase wye and delta circuits. CT placement depends on factors like circuit type and manufacturer. The dot on the CT must always face the current source, whether it is the inverter, grid, or AC/DC converter. The document also discusses uncommon configurations and compatible meter options.

Shown above are two typical current sensors – one for DC and one for AC. Current sensors primarily vary in their rating,
the size of the opening in the middle, whether they are AC or DC current sensors, and whether they are split or solid
core. Typically DECK will ship split core current sensors.
Figure 2: Typical Veris Solar Generation Example Setup:

The colors may vary depending on the CT, with most

used in DECK installations being white/black. In this
example, White is H1 and Black is H2. H1 and H2
placement do not vary. It will always look like this with
alternating colors.

Types of configurations and where to put CTs:

Common: Single-phase 3-wire

Sensors: CTs should be placed on Line 1 and Line 2.

Veris Meter configuration: The Veris meter should be configured for ‘2L 1N’.

Common: Three-phase 4-wire Wye

Sensors: CTs should be placed on Phase A, B, and C.

Veris Meter configuration: The Veris meter should be configured for ‘3L 1N’.
Common: Three-phase 3-wire Delta

Sensors: CTs should be placed on Phase A, B, and C.

Veris Meter configuration: The Veris meter should be configured for ‘3L 1N’. Even though there is no neutral, the Veris
will not calculate phase to neutral values without a neutral, so it is set for 3L1N to force it to run those calculations even
if there is no physical neutral.

Uncommon: Three-phase 4-wire Delta

Sensors: CTs should be placed on Phase A, B, and C. No voltage tap on Neutral wire.

Veris Meter configuration: The Veris meter should be configured for ‘3L 1N’.
Uncommon: Three-phase 2-wire Corner-Grounded Delta

Sensors: CTs should be placed on Phase A, B and C.

Veris Meter configuration: Veris meter cannot work with a corner grounded delta system. Veris does offer a meter (not
revenue grade) which will work with this type of configuration. The Elkor meter works.
