ABSTRACT

This study was about food safety in general and this wanted to survey and

describe the food safety and food handling practices done by food providers nearby and

within San Jose National High School, San Jose, Tacloban City. Basically, this study was

qualitative in nature and the data gathering instrument used was a self-constructed

questionnaire that contained two parts: the personal profile of the respondents and the

questionnaire containing questions about the topic. As a statistical tool, the researchers

used frequency and percentage distribution which helped them prepare the data in

tabulation for the discussion and data analysis. The following were the study’s

conclusions: majority of the respondents in this study were 41-45 years old; all of the

respondents were females; the highest number of the respondents with regards to

average monthly income is below 10,000; most of the respondents have already had

their businesses for 10 years and above; majority of the respondents were either high

school graduate or college graduate; all of the respondents were mindful about food

safety and they follow practices in food handling; majority of the respondents strongly

agree that food safety practices, personal hygiene, and cleanliness of the surroundings

are important and must be observed. The researchers recommend the future

researchers to involve more respondents to provide more accurate results.
