Research interests
• Epidemiological research: studies investigating the prevalence,
correlates, and consequences of common mental disorders among
specific populations, e.g. PLWH, older persons, adolescent
population.
• Scale development & validation: need for instruments that are
locally developed and validated to assess unique features of
psychiatric distress in SSA.
• Sensitivity and specificity of screening instruments to detect
common mental disorders in various populations.

Intervention Research:
• psychological interventions to reduce symptoms of depression,
traumatization, anxiety, and suicidality among specific populations
• Task-sharing – feasibility, acceptability, training needs, effectiveness of
implementing task-sharing in contexts such as treatment for various common
mental disorders among various populations such PLWHA, cancer, caregivers
of disabled persons, adherence counselling, etc.
• Mental health interventions and its effects on financial well-being of families,
employment, and worker absenteeism and presenteeism.
