Pre-Lab Assignment EE2112 - Lab 1 Submission Sheet

The document provides instructions for a lab assignment on resistor color codes and using a digital multimeter (DMM) to measure resistance, voltage, and current. It includes a color code chart for 4-band resistors and examples of decoding resistor values from their color bands. The student is also asked to draw a circuit diagram showing a DMM connected in series with a resistor and voltage source.

Pre-lab Assignment EE2112 – Lab 1 Submission Sheet

Student Full Name: Chelsey Spitzner

Laboratory Section: L01
Laboratory TA Name: Safari Fatemeh
Date of submission: 1/28/19

1. In the procedure part, you will be introduced to the color code by which the nominal
values of resistors are represented. Watch the following video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TX0Zt6ihKA}
a) Provide the general color code chart for 4-band resistors. (1.5 pts)

b) For the resistors listed below, decode the color bands and calculate the
corresponding resistance value, to each value, write the corresponding color
code (4 bands) with applying tolerance 10%. (4 pts)

I. 1.5 k Ώ: 1.35 k Ώ - 1650 k Ώ Brown, Green, Red, Silver

II. 2.2 k Ώ: 1.98 k Ώ - 2.42 k Ώ Red, Red, Red, Sliver
III. 3.3 k Ώ: 2.97 k Ώ - 3.63 k Ώ Orange, Orange, Red, Silver
IV. 4.7 k Ώ: 4.23 k Ώ - 5.17 k Ώ Yellow, Violet, Red, Silver

2. The Fluke DMM is shown in Figs. 8-10 with three different measurement
configurations. For each setup determine what electrical quantity the meter is set to
measure. Justify your answer. (1.5 pts)

a) Figure 8 is set to measure: Resistance because the Ώ2 button is pressed

b) Figure 9 is set to measure: Voltage because the DCV button is pressed
c) Figure 10 is set to measure: Current because the DCI button is pressed
3. Using Fig. 11, Fig. 12 as an Example. Draw the DMM in SERIES with a Resistor and
Voltage Source (Figure 1) on the Data Sheet. You can draw by hand or any software (i.e.
Multisim ...) and insert your picture here. (3 pts)
