Definition of Procedure Text
Procedure is a text that shows a process in order, or:
a. Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction / operation
manuals e.g. how to use the video, the computer, the tape recorder, the photocopier,
the fax.
b. Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity e.g. recipes, rules for games, science
experiments, road safety rules.
c. Texts that deal with human behavior for example how to live happily, how to
succeed.
Social function is to describe how something is completely done through a sequence of
series.
Generic Structure of Procedure Text
a. Goal
It contains the purpose of the text. (e.g : How to make spaghetti)
b. Material or Ingredient
It contains of the materials that used in the process. (e.g : the material to cook omelet
are egg, onion, vegetable oil, etc. )
c. Step
It contains of the steps to make something in the goal. (e.g : first, wash the tomatoes,
onion, …., second cut the onions becomes slice. . . )
The Characteristics / Language Feature of Procedure Text:
a. Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction (e.g: first, second, third, the
last)
b. Use command / imperative sentence (e.g : put the noodles on the . . ., cut the onion. .
., wash the tomatoes. . . )
c. Using action verb

b. Teacher reads two procedure texts which video will be watched and the students
repeat it. (3 minutes)
Modeling of Text
a. Students watch the first video making sandwich. (3 minutes)
b. Students ask teacher about difficult words they probably found in the video (2
minutes)
c. Students watch the second video making fruit salad. (3 minutes)
d. Students ask teacher about difficult words they probably found in the video (2
minutes)
Joint Construction of Text
a. Students are divided into 5 groups to do question and answer game. (2 minutes)
b. Student competes with other groups’ member answering some questions about
the two videos. (15 minutes)
Independent Construction of Text
a. Students in group of 3 performs one of the procedure texts from the two videos.
(25 minutes)
b. Student answers two questions about the information in the text orally. (2
minutes)
3. Closing (15 minutes)
a. Students, are guided by teacher, make a conclusion of today learning.

Generic structure:
a. Goal = how to make simple sandwich
b. Ingredients = bread, cheddar cheese,
chili sauce, beef sausage, fried egg,
celery, tomato, cucumber.
Materials = plate, knife
c. Steps = first, place a slice of bread on
the plate. Second, put the chili sauce.
Third, add tomato, cheddar cheese, beef
sausage, fried egg. After that, add chili
sauce. Then, put a slice of bread on the
top, and cut into triangle shape. Garnish
with cucumber and celery. Finally, serve
it.
Action verbs = place, put, add, cut, garnish
and serve.
Connectives = first, second, third, after that,
then, and finally.

Social Function = to describe how to make
fruit salad
Generic structure:
a. Goal = how to make fruit salad
b. Ingredients = banana, strawberries,
oranges, frozen mangoes, blueberries,
grapes
c. Steps = first, peel the banana then cut it.
Take the banana and put it into a bowl.
Now, cut the strawberries. Put all fruits
into the bowl. And stir up all. Fruit salad
is ready.
