Mathematics 9
2017/2018

Mathematics is integral to every aspect of daily life. Skills can be used to solve
problems related to time, sports, travel, money management, science, and art, to
name a few. Mathematics is part of the story of human history and is particularly
relevant to the British Columbian story. First Peoples in British Columbia, like
Indigenous people around the world, used and continue to use mathematical
knowledge and competencies to make sense of the world around them.

Instructor: Mr Yamamura

Overview:

Mathematics 9 will cover the following topics:

 Polynomials
 Exponents
 Statistics
 Rational Numbers
 Linear Relations/Equations
 Proportional Reasoning
 Financial Literacy

Evaluation:

Standards based grading will be used for this course. Students will be evaluated on their
abilility to meet course objectives. Letter grades and percentages will be assigned at the
end of the course.

Expectations

Classroom expectations are as follows:

 Follow the School Code of Conduct


 Students are responsible for work that is missed during an absence.
 If a student is absent for a quiz or test, it is his/her responsibility to arrange a make-
up time to write. Failure to do this could result in a zero on the quiz or test.
 Homework that is handed in must include a student's name and page number; all
work must be shown where appropriate.
 Homework from the textbook should be marked by the student as they work all
