1. FIRST, go to www.wikispaces.com.
4. This page will appear. You can use it to HELP you’re setting up.
5. This is the email you’ll receive. You need to ACTIVATE your email account. I would save this email.
6. Here’s your new Wikisapce page. It’s ready to EDIT, so click . This is the page that will come up when
someone visits your page. You want it to be eye-catching, but simplistic enough that people will know what
you’re site is all about. You might put a picture of your classroom, the subject you teach, or maybe a really cool
picture that catches attention.
7. This is what the editing page looks like. You’ll see your whole TOOLBAR above. I’m going to walk you through
the different things you can do with this tool bar.
8. For example, the tab will let you insert a link to another website or even to another page in
your Wikispace. As you scroll across the tabs (Link, File, Widget, Table, etc.), text will appear, telling you
what you can do with that tab. This one is for inserting a link.
Let’s go through some of the things you can add to your page. I’m
going to cover adding a video, link, picture, and document to your
Wikispace.
9. Click on the tab. This window will open up. I’m going to show you how to insert a VIDEO, but this
Widget tab will allow you to add a lot of neat things to your Wikispace.
10. Let’s add a VIDEO. Click on the tab on the Widget on the left. The window will change to this:
You can embed videos onto your Wikispace from any place with an embed (TeacherTube, Google Video, Yahoo
Video, Blip.Tv, etc.) Let’s start with .
11. Find a video you’d like to add. I’ve chosen a Wikispace tutorial from YouTube that you can watch if you need
help after the session. There are other Wikispace tutorials on YouTube, so feel free to search if you need
additional help. Click on from the Widget Window. This window will pop up. Look at (4.).
Now you need to go to the video on YouTube (or whatever site you’ve chosen) you’d like to add to your Wiki.
When you get there, look for the embed code.
Click on Embed
This pull-down window will open. See all the gibberish in the box? Click inside it and it will highlight blue.
Right click and choose “copy”.
Now go back to your Wikispace page and get ready to add your video. Click inside the box. Then, right click
and choose “paste”. After doing so, click on .
After you click save, this will show up on your editing page. Click on “save” to view your video on your Wiki.
Your video should look like this. Now whoever comes to your site can simply click on the ‘image’ and the
video will play.
website or even another page on your Wiki. On the toolbar, click on . This window will open.
Your link should now be added and will look like this on your editing page. The green arrow indicates a link.
Now we want to make the font larger on the page. First you need to highlight the link (Herrington Wikispace).
Now for the next step. Click on the text size box arrow,
14. The pull down menu looks like this. The sizes of the FONT are listed in succession by size. You can choose
accordingly. I want my text to be large, so I will choose “Heading 1”.
After you click on “Heading 1”, your font size will change on your editing page to this.
15. Now we will insert a FILE from your computer. I am going to insert a picture, which will also be a link.
After you’ve chosen the picture, we need to decide if we want the picture to show up on the page or whether
we want it to just be a link to the file or image. In my case, I want the picture to show up on the page. So I
need to click .
