ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
First of all I’m grateful to the GOD ALMIGHTY who bestowed me with good health
abilities and guidance to complete the project in a successful manner. Without his divine
blessings, it wouldn’t have been possible to complete my Summer Training Program
successfully.
A special thanks and gratitude goes to my internship guide Prof. Mr. N. Maria Joseph.
Without his valuable supervision and direction it wouldn’t have been possible to
complete both my internship period and internship report.
I convey my sincere thanks to our HOD DR. T. JOSEPH for arranging this summer
training program for students. It really makes a student capable of doing official tasks
before entering the corporate world.
Then I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to VILLAVARAYAR & SONS for

Summer Training period more enjoyable and valuable.
I also have my immense sense of gratitude to my parents who have encouraged and
helped me. In all ways in completing my Summer Training Program successfully.

INTRODUCTION TO SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM
Internship training program is one of the prime factor, which helps the student to get
accustomed to the organizational climate. The students have benefited much acquainting
themselves with the practical exposures of appraising in different functional areas. This
study is useful for future carrier. The training period is a self analysis period in which there
arises a possibility that the student can self analyse and evaluate his capabilities.
Training is a practical work that an individual does in a concern in order to make him
achieve perfection in that particular work assigned to that individual. It’s a glorious
opportunity for the students to experience the actual application of their subject thus
leading to better understanding. There is a difference between theoretical concept and its
practical application. This training helps in bridging the gap between the conceptual
knowledge and applying it in a practical way. Such opportunities are rare and the students
are fortunate enough to acquaint themselves with the practical exposure they acquire during
the course of their training. Such exposure is very useful for their future carrier.
O R IG IN:
Visons Group
Established on the recognition of the four needs of a human being - to live, to love, to
learn and to leave a legacy- emerged Vilsons; founded by Late Shri J Ponnusamy
Villavarayar, a visionary, a dominant force in the Gulf of Manner, a legend of his time
and a firm believer that enduring success never comes easily to an Individual or to an
Organization.
Since its inception in 1944, Vilsons, whose roots date back to early 1920s, when the
erstwhile minor port was dominated by Shri Rao Bahadur Caitan Villavarayar, operating
Lightering boats for handling vessels which belonged to the then leaders of M/s British
India Steam Navigation, P&O, etc., occupies prime place in the field of Maritime
Activities in the port of Tuticorin.
Shri J P Joe Villavarayar inherited the Vilsons Empire along with his father’s volcanic
passion to create landmarks and leave a legacy. He firmly believes that the quality of a
person’s life is directly proportional to his commitment to excellence, regardless of the
chosen field of endeavor. Like his father, he dared to dream, a dream for Vilsons - ‘to be
a Leader, if not the Leader.’
Today, under the committed leadership of Shri J P Joe Villavarayar, Vilsons is striving to
leave an imprint in history as a group of dynamic men, who understood what is needed to
be done, had the strength, the self-discipline to achieve the goals with excellence and the
resolve to see the future as well.
70 Years Vilsons Group:

Container Terminal:

Logistics:
Vilsons Group is a dynamic company in the Transportation and Logistics industry world-
wide.
About Us:
Our struggle to put first things first can be characterized by the contrast between two
powerful tools that direct us:
The Clock and the Compass. The Clock represents our commitments, appointments,
schedules, goals, activities - what we do with, and how we manage our time.
The Compass represents our vision, values, principles, mission, conscience, direction -
what we feel is deeply important and how we lead our lives. Between Stimulus and
Response, there is a space. In that Space is Our Power to Choose Our Response, In Our
Response lies Our Growth and Freedom.
If we learn to pause in the Space between Stimulus and Response, we Consult Our
Internal Compass, We can Face Change Squarely, Confident that we’re being true to
Principle and Purpose, and that we’re putting things first in our lives.

RECOMMENDATION TO THE FIRM
College should make contact with the firms for student’s admission for internship
training.
The student must be asked to present the internship report in the form of a
power point presentation during viva, thus savings a lot of paper and time.
When possible, provide professional networking opportunities to help students
gain additional insights into this career and also increase future employment
contacts.
Conduct a final performance review before student leaves assignment.
Meet regularly with the intern to answer questions and to give guidance
and feedback.
Students must be asked to submit a weekly report on the work they do.
Training period can be extended to 30-40 days.
CONCLUSION
Thus I consider this summer training program as a great opportunity and gain
knowledge. This training has given me much of practical knowledge over the
various sections in export and import procedures
This 20 days of summer training program in a corporate organization
[Villavarayar & sons] which helped me a lot to understand and cope with any
future typical corporate culture. However the companies can allot a separate
apprenticeship program for students to enable them to know more about imports
and export, along with additional practical practices with recent updated software.
And moreover I found a responsive working atmosphere and I felt like I was one
among them. Each of them working there helped me very much to understand each
aspect very clearly.
I hereby conclude by saying I gained a practical knowledge along with some
theoretical knowledge through this training program which is unique to this course
at postgraduate level.
