INTRODUCTION TO SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM

Internship training program is one of the prime factor, which helps the student to get
accustomed to the organizational climate. The students have benefited much acquainting
themselves with the practical exposures of appraising in different functional areas. This
study is useful for future carrier. The training period is a self analysis period in which there
arises a possibility that the student can self analyse and evaluate his capabilities.

Training is a practical work that an individual does in a concern in order to make him
achieve perfection in that particular work assigned to that individual. It’s a glorious
opportunity for the students to experience the actual application of their subject thus
leading to better understanding. There is a difference between theoretical concept and its
practical application. This training helps in bridging the gap between the conceptual
knowledge and applying it in a practical way. Such opportunities are rare and the students
are fortunate enough to acquaint themselves with the practical exposure they acquire during
the course of their training. Such exposure is very useful for their future carrier.
O R IG IN:

Visons Group

Established on the recognition of the four needs of a human being - to live, to love, to
learn and to leave a legacy- emerged Vilsons; founded by Late Shri J Ponnusamy
Villavarayar, a visionary, a dominant force in the Gulf of Manner, a legend of his time
and a firm believer that enduring success never comes easily to an Individual or to an
Organization.

Since its inception in 1944, Vilsons, whose roots date back to early 1920s, when the
erstwhile minor port was dominated by Shri Rao Bahadur Caitan Villavarayar, operating
Lightering boats for handling vessels which belonged to the then leaders of M/s British
India Steam Navigation, P&O, etc., occupies prime place in the field of Maritime
Activities in the port of Tuticorin.

Shri J P Joe Villavarayar inherited the Vilsons Empire along with his father’s volcanic
passion to create landmarks and leave a legacy. He firmly believes that the quality of a
person’s life is directly proportional to his commitment to excellence, regardless of the
chosen field of endeavor. Like his father, he dared to dream, a dream for Vilsons - ‘to be
a Leader, if not the Leader.’

Today, under the committed leadership of Shri J P Joe Villavarayar, Vilsons is striving to
leave an imprint in history as a group of dynamic men, who understood what is needed to
be done, had the strength, the self-discipline to achieve the goals with excellence and the
resolve to see the future as well.

Container Terminal:

Logistics:
Vilsons Group is a dynamic company in the Transportation and Logistics industry world-
wide.
About Us:

Our struggle to put first things first can be characterized by the contrast between two
powerful tools that direct us:

The Clock and the Compass. The Clock represents our commitments, appointments,
schedules, goals, activities - what we do with, and how we manage our time.

The Compass represents our vision, values, principles, mission, conscience, direction -
what we feel is deeply important and how we lead our lives. Between Stimulus and
Response, there is a space. In that Space is Our Power to Choose Our Response, In Our
Response lies Our Growth and Freedom.

If we learn to pause in the Space between Stimulus and Response, we Consult Our
Internal Compass, We can Face Change Squarely, Confident that we’re being true to
Principle and Purpose, and that we’re putting things first in our lives.

CONCLUSION

After completion of my internship, I had been exposed to a professional corporate

working life. Throughout my internship, I could understand more about the
definition of a goal oriented and prepare myself to become a responsible and
innovative individual in future. Along my training period, I realize that observation
is a main element to find out the root cause of a problem. Not only for my project
but daily activities too. During my internship, I co-operated with my colleagues
and superiors to determine the problems. Moreover, the project indirectly helps me
to learn independently, discipline myself, and be considerate/patient, self-trust, to
take initiative and the ability to solve problems. Besides, my communication skills
is strengthened as well when communicating with others. During the course of the
period, I have received criticism and advice from my superior and my team leader
when mistakes were made. However, those advices are useful guidance for me to
change myself and avoid myself making the same mistakes again. Apart from that,
I had also developed my skills through various programs that I had done. In sum,
the activities that I had learned during corporate training really are useful for me in
future to face challenges in a working environment. Throughout the corporate
training, I found that several things are important:
Critical and Analytical Thinking
To organize our tasks and assignment, we need to analyse our problems and
assignment, and to formulate a good solution to the problem. We would have to set
contingency plan for the solution, so that we are well prepared for the
unforeseeable situations.
Time Management
As every corporate multinational companies are always racing against tight
timeline and packed schedule, a proper time management will minimize facing
overdue deadlines. An effective time management allows us to do our assignment
efficiently and meet our schedules. Scheduling avoids time wastage and allows us
to plan ahead, and gaining more as a result.
Goal Management
Opposing to a Herculean goal seemed to be reachable at first sight, it is better to
sub-divide the goals to a few achievable tasks, so that we will be gaining more
confidence by accomplishing those tasks.
Colleague Interactions
In working environment, teamwork is vital in contributing to a strong organization.
Teamwork is also essential in reaching the goals of the organization as an entity.
Thus, communicating and sharing is much needed in the working environment.
Therefore, we should be respecting each other in work, and working together as a
team, instead of working alone. This is because working together as a team is
easier in reaching our targets, rather than operating individually.

Thus I consider this summer training program as a great opportunity and gain
knowledge. This training has given me much of practical knowledge over the
various sections in export and import procedures
This 20 days of summer training program in a corporate organization
[Villavarayar & sons] which helped me a lot to understand and cope with any
future typical corporate culture. However the companies can allot a separate
apprenticeship program for students to enable them to know more about imports
and export, along with additional practical practices with recent updated software.
And moreover I found a responsive working atmosphere and I felt like I was one
among them. Each of them working there helped me very much to understand each
aspect very clearly.
I hereby conclude by saying I gained a practical knowledge along with some
theoretical knowledge through this training program which is unique to this course
at postgraduate level.
