Observation Task 5 Listening

The document summarizes a listening lesson given to a class of 28 kindergarten students. The teacher used pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening activities. For pre-listening, the teacher played animal sounds to engage students. While reading the story, the teacher used props like puppets to keep students focused. For post-listening, the teacher reviewed the story and vocabulary through a memory game and questions. The teacher felt using props like puppets during the story helped students focus. Going forward, the teacher plans to improve using signals like a bell and providing differentiated tasks.

Reflection
Think about the advantages and disadvantages of using the model of pre-, while- and post-listening
activities to teach a listening lesson. Write first from the perspective of the teacher and then from
the perspective of the learners.

Discuss one aspect that YOU feel you did very well. Try to analyze why you think it worked well about the
successful strategy/ resource/activity/management style etc.

When I was reading the story everyone was sitting properly on their cushions as I told them. And they
were focusing with me. Especially when I stared to interduce the story by playing the sound and let
them guess. Also when I was telling the story for them I use the “once upon time” box to bring out the
characters in the story, I think it was successful because everyone was sitting quietly and listening to
me till I finished reading the story.
Discuss an aspect identified by YOU that requires attention. Discuss what the problem was, why it occurred
and what action you intend to take to be more successful in the next lesson.

I’ll try to train the students on the bell.

I’ll provide appropriate tone
I’ll learn how to animate to get the students curiously
I’ll give differentiated tasks to the students

Personal Focus for next Lesson:

I’ll try to train the students on the bell.
I’ll provide appropriate tone
I’ll learn how to animate to get the students curiously
I’ll give differentiated tasks to the students

Advantages of pre-, while- and post-listening activities:

- pre listening : to make them recognize the sound & engage the students
- while listening : to attract the attention and to keep them focus & excited
- Post listening: to focus on learning new vocabulary and understand the story

disadvantages of pre-, while- and post-listening activities:

- pre listening : there will be different level of students and the children will lose their engage in
the class
- while listening : the student will not be focused with the teacher and he will not understand
the stand because he will fell board
- Post listening: the children may not understand and learn new words
