INTRODUCTION:

A civic center is a prominent land area within a community that is


constructed to be its focal point or center. It usually contains one or more
dominant public buildings, which may also include a government building.
Recently, the term "civic center" has been used in reference to an entire central
business district of a community or a major shopping center in the middle of a
community.

A chief administrative, entertainment and cultural center of the town as a whole,


a civic center represents the image of the region and its residents. The building
is the center of all societies, of all groups and of every activity.

AIM:

To create a space which can form the node for holding, fulfilling the needs
and experiencing commercial, institutional, cultural and social activities. It is in
a way a hybrid between a convention center or a cultural hub and a commercial
center at a much reduced scale.

OBJECTIVE:

 To design a climate responsive structure.


 Proposal of a sustainable design.
 The design to be in harmony with nature.
 Use of eco-friendly earthy materials.
 Building energy efficient structure.

 It changes the existing old market space into modernized new building

 This project will not be just about designing an energy efficient and
sustainable building but will also give an opportunity to design a response
to ameliorate social condition.
 The platform of a number of cultural activities.

 To incorporate the mentioned demands, the present demography asks for


a commercial and cultural hub.

THRUST AREA:

Study of the role played by the Sustainable architecture is one of the


most prominent thing to be considered while designing a public structure.

SITE LOCATION:

 The site is located in the Bhilai in the Centre avenue road.


 The land area is 16.5 acres.

SCOPE OF THE SITE:

 Bhilai is a small city in the district of Durg, Chhattisgarh, in eastern central


India, with a population of over 600.000 people.
 Although the existing Civic Centre caters the basic commercial needs of
the people, it lacks the possession of a cultural and a social place of
gathering where people can acquire knowledge as well as indulge in
interactions and experience the amalgamation of different spaces.
 The city is majorly known either for its Bhilai Steel Plant or its Cement
Plant. Other attractions include the Maitri Bagh Zoo and the existing Civic
Centre.
