Lesson Reflection - 3

The document summarizes a science lesson about the layers of the Earth. The lesson aimed to teach students to identify the inner core, outer core, mantle, and crust. It involved comparing and contrasting the thickness and composition of the Earth's crust, mantle, and core. Students explored the different layers of the Earth through hands-on activities using playdough to create and cut open a model of the Earth to label the layers. The teacher found the lesson engaged the students and achieved the goal of helping them identify the concept of the Earth's layers. For future lessons, the teacher plans to focus on improving classroom management strategies.

Lesson - unit/page
crust teacher
MST Gemma Smith School RAK Academy PYP
Class Grade 4E Date 17th of October, 2018
Overall aim and context of the lesson

Identify the layers of the earth (inner core, outer core, mantle, and curst).
Compare and contrast the Earth’s crust, mantle, and core including thickness, and
composition.

Select (S):

Layers of the Earth’s crust

Describe (D):
The lesson was science investigation focused on discovering the different layers of the Earth. This
lesson is based on how many layers that the earth had, compare and contrast the Earth’s crust,
mantle and core include how thick it is and what is it made of. Students will be exploring how many
layers that the earth has and name each of it.

Analyze (A):
In the engagement, I think using the video is very useful to prepare and engage the students in
the lesson. Moreover, I assume that asking questions very benefit to guide and engage the
students in the lesson. Additionally, I think providing hands-on materials in the experiment let the
students exploring the concept of the lesson by themselves through doing it.
Appraise (A):
I think all the students were engaged in my lesson and did their work effectively. My goal was to
allow the students to identify the layers of the earth and how thickness it is through doing the
experiment. I achieved this goal when I prepared handmade playdoh to let them create their earth
in pairs and cut it in the middle to label the names of the earth’s layers. I think this helps the
students to identify the concept of the lesson.
Transform (T):
In the next class, I will be focusing on use managing class strategies to manage the students’
behavior.
