DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING
(Common to EIE, E.Con.E, ECC and ECE)
Time: 3 hours Max Marks: 70
Answer any FIVE questions
All questions carry equal marks
*****

1 Check the following systems described with difference equations for linearity, shift invariance,
memory and causality.
(i) y(n) + y(n+1) = n x(n).
(ii) y(n) = x(n) + x(n-1) + x(n-2).

2 Compute the DFT of each of the following finite length sequences considered to be of length N
(where N is even)
(i) x(n) = 1 0 ≤ n ≤ (N/2)-1
=0 N/2 ≤ n ≤ N-1
(ii) x(n) = an 0 ≤ n ≤ N-1
=0 otherwise.

3 (a) What is inverse FFT?

(b) Find DFT of sequence using DIT-FFT
x(n) = {1, 1, 1, 1}

4 Determine z-transforms of the following finite duration signals. Also find out ROC
(i) x1(n) = {0, 0, 1, 2, 5, 7, 0, 1}
(ii) x2(n) = {2, 4, 5, 7, 0, 1}

(iii) x3(n) = δ(n+k) k>0

5 (a) What are the advantages and disadvantages of impulse invariant method?
(b) Convert following analog filter transfer function into digital filter transfer function using impulse
invariant method: H(s) = (s + 0.2)/(s + 0.2)2 + 9. Assume t = 0.1 sec

6 A low pass filter has the desired frequency response as given by:
Hd(ejω) = e-j2 ω 0 ≤ ω ≤ π/2
=0 π/2 ≤ ω ≤ π
Determine the filter coefficients h(n) for M = 7, using type – II frequency sampling technique.

7 Explain the concepts of decimation and interpolation with the help of waveform illustrations.

8 (a) With necessary block diagrams explain about discrete multi tone transmitter.
(b) Discuss need for frequency domain operations used in musical sound processing.
