Screening Process:
Purpose, it allows determinations of moving forward
with formal assessment in order to see if a plan is
needed.
Identification Process:
Purpose, to determine if a student has a disability, if
sped is required, and what types of services may be
needed.
On-Going Evaluation:
Purpose, having a new IEP each year brings new goals
for the child and helps identify the needs for each
individual. Adjustments may be made if needed.
IEP and Instructional planning:
Purpose, to help improve educational results for
children with disabilities. Instructional planning
guides teachers, saves time and energy, and gives
sequencing
Steps of SPED Referral Process
1: Recognition
Recognizing different behaviors, habits, strengths,
weaknesses, and how they result can help determine steps of
SPED PROCESS.
2: Pre-Referral
This process helps determine if behavioral and educational
challenges may be resolved in a general education classroom.
3: Referral
Referrals can come from parents, doctors, day care
professionals.If the Pre-referral is unsuccessful, a student my
be referred to for sped by a referral.
4: Evaluation
Results from evaluations are used to determine the eligibility
of Special Education and related services to help the student.
5: Eligibility
Information found during assessment is gathered to
determine eligibility for sped services.
6: IEP Meeting
Meetings are scheduled and conducted by the school systems.
The meeting is held and the IEP is created. The IEP gathers

The students IEP and associated serviced move forward.
Accommodations are provided for instructions and testing.
8: IEP Re-Evaluation
Every 3 years child is re-evaluated sometimes called a
triennial. Purpose is to see if things have to change in order to
