Algebra 2 Course Description: The purpose of this course is to use problem solving strategies with the knowledge of algebra,
geometry, and functions to formulate appropriate solutions, and to then visualize, express, and graph functions that can be
used to solve a variety of real world and mathematical problems. This course also places a heavy emphasis on group work and
social interaction.

Required Supplies: Highly Suggested Supplies

 #2 Pencils (at least 2)  Mechanical Pencils

 3-Ring Binder (1-inch or larger)  Extra erasers
 Tab Dividers (5-pack)  Graphing Calculator (TI-83 or 84)
 Sheet protectors (10-pack)  Highlighters
 Loose-leaf Notebook paper (one pack per quarter)
 Loose-leaf Graph Paper (one pack)
 Ruler (with 3 holes to place in binder)
 Text book
 Scientific Calculator (see note below)

Note: a cell phone is not a calculator, nor is an iPod Touch.

In addition to these basic items, you may be asked to provide your own materials for projects, which may include but
are not limited to, glue, construction paper, and/or poster board. Substantial notice will be given before such items
are due.

Grading Scale: Based on Duval County policy Grade Distribution:

A 90-100% Tests 40 points
B 80-89% Quizzes 8-12
C 70-79% Notebook checks 40
D 60-69% Classwork & Homework 4
F 59% and below

Missed Work:
 Tests – If a student misses a test they must make up the test the very next class period they are present or a zero will
be recorded.
 Quizzes – No makeup quizzes will be allowed. At the end of each quarter, the lowest 2 quiz grades will be dropped.
 Classwork & Homework – Students are responsible for getting makeup assignments. Assignments turned in within one
week after the due date will have a half a point taken off. After that one week period a whole point will be taken off
(which means the maximum score on an assignment can only be 3 out of 4).
 Warmups – No warmup makeups. Students must be present in class.
 All work – No late work will be accepted during the final week of each quarter. All late assignments must be turned in
no later than 1:40 pm one week before grades are due, and must be placed in Ms. Milner’s hand (not under the door,
not in her mail box, etc).

Notebooks:  Students will be required to maintain an organized notebook (1-inch 3-ring binder).  It will be divided into 5
sections. Please label the tabs: Must Haves, Warm-ups, Notes, Classwork/Homework, and Assessments.
Every Item in the notebook must be dated and in chronological order. A table of contents will be kept at the front.
Notebook checks can only be made up due to absence.
Homework: Homework will be assigned to reinforce what has been taught in class. It is meant to guide you as an aid outside of
the classroom. I encourage you to go to www.hotmath.com, www.khanacademy.org, www.mathematicshelp.com, or
www.algebratutor.org.

Work Redos: An homework or classwork assignment may be redone or corrected to maximize points only if the student has
first completed the assignment on time AND made a legitimate attempt.

ABSENCES/TARDIES: Maintaining good attendance is essential. In case of any absences, the student is responsible for
retrieving and completing any missed work. You are considered tardy as soon as the last bell has rung and I have shut the door.
Students will not be allowed to enter my classroom without a tardy pass. If the student does not have a tardy pass, he/she will
be sent to their respective House administrator to retrieve one.

General Classroom Rules: In addition to the rules laid out in the Student Code of Conduct, the following rules will be
followed in Ms. Milner’s Class
1. Come to class on time. If the tardy bell has rung and you are not in class, you are tardy, and must get a pass.
2. DO wear Student ID visibly and above the waist and DO NOT wear hats or hoods at all times.
3. Take care of personal issues OUTSIDE of class and before the tardy bell. ie: makeup, hair, bathroom, etc…
4. Turn off electronic devices and leave them off and out of sight at all times. (cell phones, music players, etc.) The only
thing that may be used in class that requires electricity is a legitimate calculator (no ipods, no cell phones).

1. In-class warning
2. Student/teacher conference
3. Parental contact/conference
4. Detention
5. Referral

Cheating will not be tolerated. If a student is suspected of cheating, they will be warned in class. If it happens again, or
evidence is found of cheating, i.e. a ‘cheat sheet,’ the student’s test will be taken away and an automatic zero (0) will be given
and a referral written.
