Project Work On Physics: Dav Kapildev Public School

1) The document is a student project report on logic gates. It discusses the basics of logic gates like AND, OR, and NOT gates. 2) It explains the principle of Boolean algebra that digital circuits are constructed from three basic logic gates. Truth tables and Boolean expressions are used to define the functions of each gate. 3) The report then describes the working of each basic logic gate - AND, OR, and NOT. It provides the truth tables and logic symbols for each gate.

INTRODUCTION
A gate is a digital circuit that follows certain
logical relationship between the input and
output voltages.
three basic gates such as OR gate , AND gate and
NOT gate.
Each basic logic gate is indicated by a logic
symbol and its function is defined and
described either by a truth table or by a
Boolean expression.
Truth table:- It is a table that shows all
possible input combinations and the
corresponding output combinations for a logic
gate.

Boolean expression:- It is the expression
which shows the combination of two Boolean
variables that result into a new Boolean
variable.

Principle
Any Boolean algebra operation can be
associated with inputs and outputs represents
the statements of Boolean algebra. Although
these circuits may be complex , they may all be
constructed from three basic devices. We have
three different logic gates. These are the AND
gate , the OR gate and the NOT gate.

SOME USEFUL LAWS OF BOOLEAN
ALGEBRA
1.De-Morgan’s theorem:-It states that the
complement of the whole sum is equal to
the product of individual complements and
vice-versa i.e. ̅̅̅̅̅̅̅̅
𝐴 + 𝐵 =𝐴̅.𝐵̅
2. Commutative laws:-
(a) A+B=B+A

(b)A.B=B.A
3. Associative laws:-
(a) A+(B+C)= (A+B)+C
(b) A.(B.C) = (A.B).C
4. Distributive laws:-
(a) A.(B+C)=(A+B).C
(b) (A+B).(A+C)=A+B.C
5. Absorption laws:-
(a) A+A.B=A
(b)A.(A+𝐴̅)=A

BASIC GATES
Digital systems are said to be constructed by using
logic gates. There are three basic gates and the
basic operations are described below with the aid
of truth tables.
AND gate

The AND gate is an electronic circuit that
gives a high output (1) only if all its
inputs are high. A dot (.) is used to show
the AND operation i.e. A.B. Bear in mind
that this dot is sometimes omitted i.e. AB

OR gate

The OR gate is an electronic circuit that

gives a high output (1) if one or more of
its inputs are high. A plus (+) is used to
show the OR operation.

NOT gate

The NOT gate is an electronic circuit that
produces an inverted version of the input
at its output. It is also known as
an inverter. If the input variable is A, the
inverted output is known as NOT A. This
is also shown as A', or A with a bar over
the top, as shown at the outputs. The
diagrams below show two ways that the
NAND logic gate can be configured to
produce a NOT gate. It can also be done
using NOR logic gates in the same way.
