It is told that in the year 1928, Charles A. Lindbergh, the first aviator to cross the
Atlantic Ocean by plane without stopovers and alone visited Puerto Rico on a trip of
“goodwill”, which began in South America, Central America and culminated in the
Caribbean. Getting of the plane and feeling the warmth of the island, he was gifted with a
frozen juice or soda that really pleased the pilot. Asking for the name of the delicious
frozen fruit juice, they decided to baptize the appetizer with the surname of the aviator.
Although, other voices of history claim the emotional coldness of the pilot to the
reception of the Puerto Ricans do earned him more recognition and that until today
remains. The now typical frozen juice of the country is called “Limber” because
Lindbergh was a “very cold man” and because the limber’s feature was “cold and hard”,
like him. This last sentence tells us, some of the characteristics of the limber.
The limbers are juices of different flavors, frozen in a plastic cup. Some flavors are:
milk, ice cream, fruits, amoung others. Currently new flavors have emerged, such as:
nutella, coffee, peanut butter, cake, and cheese. Limber’s can be found in: supermarkets,
department stores, pharmacies, gas stations and even in our homes and neighbors. At
present, they can be found with a price of one dollar to one dollar fifty cents. This is a
very good price, but remember, the limber isn’t too hard to elaborate, so let’s do it!
The limber is very easy to make. The recipe that I elaborated is called: “The Banana-
Almond Limber”. The ingredients are: two bananas, one cup of fresh milk, one cup of
evaporated milk, one teaspoon of vanilla, one spoon of sugar and chopped almonds. The
procedure is the following: cut the bananas in small pieces. Mix the bananas and the milk
in the blender. Then add the vanilla and sugar. Put the mixture into plastic cups and pour
the chopped almonds. Then freeze it. This leads us to the conclusion.
In summary, this work has been very interesting to me because I learned about the
history of the limber in Puerto Rico, the great variety of flavors that exist today and how
to elaborate this product step by step. The preparation for this recipe was very easy. I
prepared the recipe with fresh and nutritious products for your health. My “Banana-
Almond Limber” is delicious and I did not have to make any changes. People who do not
want to use banana for this recipe can use the fruit of their choice. My recipe is a good
alternative for people who want to eat healthy. I’m sure people who try my “Banana-
Almond Limber” are going to be delighted.
