Spherical mirror Ray diagram worksheet:

For each of the questions below, you must draw a ray diagram to show the image.
1. The concave mirror shown below has an object placed 20cm in front of it. An image is formed in 35 cm in
front of the mirror. What is the nature of the image? Calculate the magnification of the image and the focal
length of the mirror.

2. The convex mirror shown below has an object placed 25cm in front of it. An image is formed 45 cm from the
mirror. What is the nature of the image? Calculate the magnification of the image and the focal length of the
mirror.

3. The mirror shown below has a radius of curvature of 3.0m. An object is placed in front of the mirror and an
image with a magnification of 1.5 is formed. What can you deduce about the nature and location of the image?
Draw a ray diagram to show the image formed by the mirror. Calculate the object and image distances.

4. The mirror shown below has a radius of curvature of 1,2m. For an object placed 0.3m from the mirror, draw
a ray diagram to show the image formed by the mirror. Describe the characteristics of the image. Calculate
the image distance, and the magnification factor.

5. A concave mirror (f=45cm) produces an image whose distance from the mirror is one-third the object
distance. Determine the object and (positive) image distance.

6. A candle is placed 15.0 cm in front of a convex mirror. When the convex mirror is replaced with a plane
mirror, the image moves 7.0 cm further away from the mirror. Find the focal length of the convex mirror.

7. An image formed by a convex mirror with a radius of curvature of 48 cm, has a magnification of 0.150. Which
way and by how much should the object be moved to double the size of the image?
