Numbers Study Lesson 11

The Israelites grew impatient again in their journey and complained against God and Moses. God punished them by sending venomous snakes that bit and killed many people. The people repented and asked Moses to intercede for them. God instructed Moses to make a bronze snake and mount it on a pole. Anyone who was bitten could look at the bronze snake and live. This prefigured the salvation God would provide through Jesus being lifted up on the cross. The Israelites continued their journey, defeating the Amorite king Sihon and taking control of his land when he refused them safe passage.
