Linear Equation System Chapter

1. The document defines linear equations with two variables and systems of linear equations with two variables. It provides examples of their general forms. 2. There are several methods for solving systems of linear equations, including graphic methods, substitution, elimination, and elimination-substitution. 3. The document also discusses equations of lines and relationships between parallel and perpendicular lines. It provides formulas for finding the equation of a line given various conditions like two points or a point and slope.

Chapter Linear Equation System

Linear Equation with Two Variables

Definition
Linear equations with two variables have the general form
a x + b y = c, with a, b, and c are real numbers and a, b ≠ 0

System of Linear Equations with Two Variables (SPLDV)

Definition
Two or more linear equation with two variables presented
simultaneously called the system of linear equations.
General form:

a1 x  b1 y  c1

a2 x  b2 y  c2
With a 1, b 1, c 1, a 2, b 2, and c 2 are real constants

Settlement Association SPLDV can be determined by several ways.

1. Graphic methods
2. Substitution method
3. Elimination method
4. Elimination-substitution method

Some unsure which form a straight line equation.

1. The equation of the straight line through two points T 1 (x 1, y 1)

and T 2 (x 2, y 2) is determined by the formula;

y  y1 x  x1

y 2  y1 x 2  x1

With gradient
y  y1 y
m= or simply m =
y2  y1 x

2. The equation of the straight line through the point T (x1, y1) and
the gradient m is determined by the formula;
y - y 1 = m (x - x 1)

3. Equation straight line through the two points T 1 (0, b) and T 2 (a,
0) is determined by the formula:
x y
+ = 1 or bx + ay = ab
a b

Relations between the two straight lines

1. Straight line l 1: y=m 1 x+n 1 will be parallel to the straight line l
2: y=m+n 2 x 2 if and only if m 1 = m 2
2. Straight line l 1: y=m 1 x + n 1 will be perpendicular to the straight
line l 2: y=m+n 2 x 2 if and only if m 1. M 2 = -1
