Delta Modulation: Expt No:3 DATE:18.07.2018

Delta modulation was studied using an experiment kit, demodulator, comparator, clock generator and power supply. The block diagram showed the frequency modulator and demodulator. Graphs of the output showed the encoded signal. Delta modulation encodes the difference between successive samples into a 1-bit data stream. It must oversample the analog signal to achieve a high signal-to-noise ratio. The experiment demonstrated the encoding process and identified slope overload and granular noise during linear delta modulation.

DELTA MODULATION

AIM:
To study the encoder power ,operation of linear delta modulation and to identify the slope
overload and granular noise.

APPARATUS REQUIRED:
 Experiment kit
 Demodulator
 Comparator
 Clock generator
 Connecting wires
 Power supply
FREQUENCY MODULATOR AND DEMODULATOR:

OUTPUT GRAPHS:

INFERENCE:
1. A delta modulation (DM or Δ-modulation) is an analog-to-digital and
digital-to-analog signal conversion technique used for transmission of
voice information where quality is not of primary importance.
2. The difference between successive samples are encoded into n-bit data
streams. In delta modulation, the transmitted data are reduced to a 1-bit
data stream.
3. To achieve high signal-to-noise ratio, delta modulation must use
oversampling techniques, that is, the analog signal is sampled at a rate
several times higher than the Nyquist rate.
FIGURE 2:
RESULT:
Thus the encoding process and linear delta modulation process has been studied
along with slope overload noise and granular noise.
