Activare Tempomat

This document provides a 7-step tutorial for activating cruise control on a Ford Focus MK2 and MK2.5 using an ELM327 cable and ELMconfig software: 1. Obtain a modified ELM327 cable capable of 500k baudrate and connect it to the car's OBD2 port. 2. Download ELMconfig versions 2.10 and 2.17b. 3. Use ELMconfig to read from and write configuration files to the GEM, HEC and PCM modules to enable the cruise control setting. 4. Read the PCM firmware to create a BIN file, which can take a long time. 5. Load the BIN file and configuration

In cele din urma am reusit sa activez Cruise Control cu un Elm modificat in GEM,

HEC respectiv PCM.

La PCM primeam eroarea cu "non empty vid bloc...", dar am rezolvat aceasta problema
cu ajutorul lui claumedel.

"4.download firmware from PCM and save to BIN file - takes 40mins
5.load firmware from the same BIN file, opt "No" when asked about the non-empty VID
block
6.write firmware to PCM, when asked choose to use the current configuration for the
VID block (at this point I had the cruise control checkbox already checked on the
PCM config page)
7.read configs from GEM, HEC and PCM again to see if cruise control checkboxes are
checked and to save the files again"
De mentionat ca la mine a durat 18 minute sa copiez firmware PCM, respectiv 4
minute sa il rescriu.

Acum mai am de asteptat cablajul de la csabyboy si sper ca in weekend sa am Cruise

Control functional.

Multumesc tuturor care au fost de ajutor, si daca este cineva in Brasov care are
nevoie de activare ma poate cauta.

Tutorial

This is a guide on how to activate cruise control on a ford focus MK2 and mk2.5
(facelift)

Step a.1 obtain a modified ELM327 cable

First of all you will need a modified ELM327 cable so that you can begin to
activate cruise in your focus. The cable must be equipped with a MS/HS CAN switch
and be able to run at a baudrate of 500K. There are a lot on these cables on eBay
that claim to run at 500k but dont (I found out the hard way), I would recommend
buying it from a site called James Simpson (link below) as he used quality cables
and can guarantee the 500k baudrate.

Why is the speed important you may ask? Well, you will need to communicate with the
PCM to activate cruise which required a connection speed of 500k, any less and you
wont be able to do it.

Step a.2 obtain ELMconfig software, version 2.10 and 2.17b

Once you have the two versions downloaded, extract them in separate folders and
have them handy so you can access them easily (two new folders on the desktop is
best!).

Step a.3 installing Cable drivers

Before using the cable to connect to your car make sure that you have the required
drivers so you dont run into any unexpected problems. To do this plug the adapter
into your laptop ONLY, windows should find the device and install it. Once its
installed you can start connecting it to your car.

Step a.4 setup and connecting to your Focus

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CHARGED BATTERY!! I WOULD RECOMMEND A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY
THAT CAN HOLD ITS CHARGE WHILE IN USE FOR AT LEAST 2,5 HOURS!
Take your laptop and cable to your Focus, plug the cable into the OBD2 port and
your laptop.
Now launch ELMconfig 2.17b.
Make sure your settings match these shown below:
 Language: English
 Driver: FTDI D2xx
 Device: FT232R....
 Baudrate: 500,000 (un-select auto)
 Connection: Focus II / C-MaxI / Kuga I

Now the programing begins!

Step 1 Switch in MS-CAN position (left)

GEM Configuration Page 3
Click Read from GEM
If Cruise Control Configuration it ticked then move to the next step, if not then
tick it
Click Write to GEM
Wait for program to write and reboot the GEM

Step 2 Switch in HS-CAN position (right)

HEC Configuration Page 1
Read from HEC
If Cruise Control Configuration it ticked then move to the next step, if not then
tick it
Click Write to HEC
Wait for program to write and reboot the HEC

Step 3a Switch in HS-CAN position (right)

PCM Information Read PCM
PCM Configuration
Look if the PCM type is the same that was show on PCM Information
In my case: ESU-411/418(1.8 125/2.0 145)
Click Read from PCM
You may get an engine malfunction warning appear while reprogramming, do not worry
this is normal and happened to me, it because the PCM module is not able to
communicate while its being reprogrammed so it shows as an error.
Make sure Integrated Speed Control is ticked.
Click Save to file save it to a clutter free, easily accessible folder (I
recommend desktop).

Step 3b Switch in HS-CAN position (right)

PCM Procedures Page 2
DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS!
Click Read firmware from PCM to BIN-file this takes anything
Obs.: This step will take a lot of minutes (about 80 min in my case), make sure
that you LAPTOP has enough battery (I recommend you turn on the energy).
*this bit I struggle to remember but dont worry it wont ruin your car!
Once you click read you might get an option to save the bin file (this might be
before or after the reading). If after reading it does not prompt you to save
anything then click Save firmware to BIN-file, chose the same location where you
saved the PCM configuration file.
*Now i recommend you turf of and turn on the key (but dont turn on the engine),
just to restart the PCM.*
Now close ELMconfig 2.17 and open 2.10
Make sure the settings are the same as used in 2.17 (note the device wont show its
name instead it will just display its com port but this is auto detected) and click
open port.

Step 3c - Switch in HS-CAN position (right)

PCM Information
Click Read and wait for it to read all the fields.

Step 3d - Switch in HS-CAN position (right)

PCM Procedures Page 2
Its very important you use the same PCM type used on ELMconfig 2.17b (Step 3a).
Click Load VID-block from file
Here you want to select the PCM configuration file you saved (the one where you
ticked integrated speed control Step 3a)
Then click Load firmware from file
Now select the file you saved from reading the PCM to bin operation (the one that
took a long time in comparison - Step 3b)
**The program will send a message to you that there is a non-empty VID block and
will ask if you want to keep them, click NO (if you click yes the PCM will be
reprogramed with the same firmware and nothing will change!).**
Then click Write current firmware in PCM
This will reprogram the PCM; it will take anything from 10 20 minutes (in my
case).
**DO NOT UNPLUG or STOP to process or you will mess up your PCM**
Once its done simply close ELMconfig 2.10.
If you want to verify if PCM was really reprogramed:
After finish the Step 3d, open again ELMconfig 2.17b and:
PCM Information Read PCM
PCM Configuration - Read from PCM
If Integrated Speed Control is ticked, congratulations! You activated the cruise
control.
If not, probably you mistake an error on Step 3d. Probably after to click Load
firmware from file you clicked yes in the message. On this case, repeat the
steps 3c and 3d.
Once its done simply close ELMconfig and remove the cable, start your engine and
take your focus out for a drive and try cruise IT will work !!!
