TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

This report comprises the summary of the design of Single Storied Steel Truss Structure for
Gyan Niketan Higher Secondary School. The report consists of the design procedure
adopted, assumptions made and input and output from the design and analysis. It is assumed
that the Client will completely follow the Structural Design specified in the form of Design
Drawings attached in the report.

The Designer will not be responsible if any alteration to the structural system and
configuration made by Client without consultation and permission from the Designer.

The design calculations and derivations are limited to only a minimum to let the concerned
people know the methodology adopted. However, the calculations may be provided to the
Client or the concerned Authority upon request.

1. BACKGROUND
This report consists of structural analysis and design of a Single Storied Steel Truss Structure
in a summarized form. However, a set of detailed design drawings is included in order to
make it easy for the Fabricator and Civil Contractor.
The analysis and design has been based on Indian Standard Codes.
2. SALIENT FEATURES

5. DESIGN OF STRUCTURAL MEMBERS

5.1. DESIGN ASSUMPTIONS

Foundations
The safe bearing capacity (SBC) of the soil is taken to be 100 KN/m2 (as no soil test data
provided). The depth of the foundation is 1.2 m. It is assumed that the soil below is
converted to a firm base by proper compaction or by any convenient means or as directed
by the site engineer.
Truss Element
The truss elements are designed by hollow square pipes.
Columns
The columns are hollow square pipes.
Anchoring
The superstructure is connected to the foundation by anchor bolts.

5.2. DESIGN METHODOLOGY

The analysis and design of the structure is carried out by using the software SAP2000
v.16 as per IS 800: 1984. The responses are closely observed and checked for all critical
cases.
