This document discusses design considerations for bond and anchorage in reinforced concrete. It defines bond as the adhesion between concrete and steel that allows them to act together without slip. Anchorage bond refers to the average stress along the anchorage length of reinforcing bars. Development length is the length needed on either side of maximum tension/compression points for the average bond stress to not be exceeded. The document provides clauses from IS 456:2000 regarding hooks, bends, shear reinforcement anchorage, column/footing reinforcement, bundling bars, splicing, and tension bar curtailment.

Design for bond and anchorage
BOND ¾ The term Bond in reinforced concrete design refers to the adhesion or the shear stress that occurs between the concrete and steel in a loaded member. member
¾ It is the bond between steel and concrete that enables the
two materials to act together without slip.
¾ The assumption that in a RCC beam plane sections remain
plane even after bending will be valid only if there is perfect bond or no slip between concrete and steel. ¾ The averageg stress that acts alongg this anchorage g length g is called the AVERAGE ANCHORAGE BOND.
¾ The length or extension that should be provided on either side
of the point of maximum tension in the steel so that the average ave age bobondd st stress ess iss not ot eexceeded ceeded iss ca called ed DEVELOPMENT LENGTH in tension and compression.
¾ Clause 26.2.1, IS 456:2000
When deformed bars are used a 60% increase in τbd is allowed Development length Ld at sections of maximum i stress Hooks and Bends (Clause 26.2.2)
