Information if you are looking to get the bus to Terezin from Praha-

Holesovice...
Just visited Terezin, but I prefer to travel independently rather than use organised tours so I took the bus,
which goes from Praha-Holesovice in the north of the city. The bus is very convenient, and the fare to
Terezin is Kc75 each way (£2.10 or US $3.30) but it takes a bit of finding, and there aren't many staff at the
station to ask. The following information will help if you're planning this journey:

1) When you get off the tram at Praha-Holesovice (No 24 goes there from the city centre, also the metro
red line) turn 180° and you will see the bus station/metro station across the street in front of you, however
this isn't where the Terezin bus goes from, these buses are all local routes only (walked round for about 20
minutes before I found that one out!).

2) Descend into the Metro station and walk all the way along the station, and then go back up the stairs at
the far end of the platform. (If you arrive by Metro, turn right as you exit the train towards the main railway
station which is signposted, and you'll see the stairs in front of you, can't miss 'em!).

3) At the top of the stairs turn immediately right and exit the building and you will see another bus parking
area in front of you (If you're in the right place there will be some elevated railway platforms on your left)
the Terezin Bus goes from bay number 7 which is about half way along. You can buy the tickets on the bus,
take small change, a 100Kc note will do it, as the driver didn't look very impressed when proffered 500Kc
by another passenger and had to get extra change brought to the bus.

4) The journey is advertised as 50 minutes on the timetable, but in actuality to about 1 hour 5 minutes, it's
easy to see when you've arrived in Terezin as you pass right next to the fort (on your right) just before you
arrive and the large town name sign is just before the bus stop, so very difficult to miss.

5) On the return journey the bus stop is almost immediately opposite where you drop off and is clearly
signposted, the buses don't run exactly to the timetable ours was approx 15 minutes late which is
apparently pretty normal.

I know people like to have the tour guide and the convenience of being collected from their hotel, but a tour
(available in various languages) is included in the price of admission to the fort anyway and $10 return fare
(That includes admission to the fort) versus $60 for an organised tour from Prague seems like a bit of a no
brainer. The bus was a few years old but clean and comfy, and most importantly full of very pretty czech
girls.

There is a restaurant next to the fort, but it is closed during the low off season, so take your own food &
water as there's nowhere else to eat in Terezin, not that we could find anyway.

Terezin Fort is well worth a visit, an amazing but sombre place. In the end we spent about four hours in the
small fort, which isn't that small, but didn't make it to the big fort as the daylight was going fast. The small
for could almost fill up a day on it's own, lots to see there.

Getting to Terezín
Terezín is 60km north of Prague, approximately in the direction of Dresden. The Ohře River flows between the two parts of
Terezín (the small and large fortresses) and continues on to join the Labe at Litoměřice, 4km away. When searching the
online timetables, look for Terezín (LT), not Terezín (HO).

From Prague, 10 buses each morning make the trip in a little under an hour. Most buses leave from the main bus
station Florenc, and at the time of writing they were departing from stands 16 and 17. Further buses depart from stand 7 of
the bus station beside Prague’s Holešovice train station, in the suburb north across the Vltava river from the old town.

In Terezín, the buses from Prague sweep along a bend past a bastion of the small fortress and then stop beside
a huge carpark. This is the place to get off if you plan to begin your sightseeing at the small fortress and prison museum. If
you plan to begin at the large fortress and ghetto museum, stay on the bus another couple of minutes until it arrives at
thetree-lined main square and drops you off in front of the tourist information office, which is just around the corner from the
ghetto museum.

Getting back to Prague at the end of the day is a reverse of what you did in the morning. Buses run a couple of
times every hour until about 5pm, when they become less frequent and stop altogether sometime between 7 and 8pm. You
can catch the bus either on the main central square of the large fortress or at the huge carpark near the small fortress.

Nearby Litoměřice If you still have some time to spare, you could travel 5 minutes by bus into Litoměřice which is a
nice town to have a look around for a few hours or even to stay the night. The late afternoon busesfrom Litoměřice to Prague
are the same ones that pick up at Terezín. If you miss the last direct bus, you should still be able to get back to Prague from
Litoměřice by train, with one change.
