CASE STUDY – COLDMAN

INTRODUCTION: COLDMAN is into providing Temperature-Controlled Warehousing & Logistic Services to


various industries with a strong focus on technology driven operations. They offer an array of
warehousing, distribution, port centric logistics and business integrated solutions designed to be
efficient and to lower supply chain costs.

Impressed by their commitment and futuristic goals, we were happy to collaborate with Coldman
Logistics as their Fire Safety Consultant and Vendor for PAN-India premises.

SCOPE OF WORK: Consultancy, Design, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Fire Hydrant
System, Sprinkler System, Fire Detection & Alarm System, and Portable Extinguishing Systems.

TYPICAL SITE LAYOUT:

Coldman provides a comprehensive range of customized warehousing solutions scalable to clients /


product specific needs. They offer six different temperature zones ranging from -30°C to +30°C. They
have warehouses spread across strategic locations all over India.

Almost all the Coldman Logistics premises are divided into four portions:

1. Cold Storage Area: It is the largest portion of the premises occupying almost half the built-
up area. Coldman uses environment friendly refrigerant, FREON R404a as refrigerant gas. They
cater to product specific needs with cold chambers being maintained at desired temperature
upto -28°C and Ante Room at -5°C.
Fire Protection Systems Installed:
 Hydrant System, Sprinkler System, Fire detection and Alarm system.
2. Dry Storage Area: This is the second most significant portion in the premises. In this area,
goods are stored upto a temperature range of +30°C. The storage design consists of fully
automated high-rise dry stores with double deep racking structures towering upto 11 meters.

 Hydrant System, Sprinkler System, Fire detection and Alarm system.
3. Food Processing Area: The Food Processing Area is a customer-centric business solution
offered by Coldman Logistics. Customers can co-create options like - Ingredient to Ready to
consume products; Ingredient to ready to cook products; Farm to Fork; Farm to Shelf etc.

 Hydrant System, Sprinkler System, Fire detection and Alarm system.
4. Office Block: This is the administrative center of the premises. It houses the offices of the
various employees working towards making Coldman Logistics one of the fastest growing cold-
chain in India.

 Hydrant System and Fire Alarm system.

Note: In addition to the different Fire Protection Systems installed, Fire Extinguishers were installed at
strategic locations in all the portions of the premises.

CONCLUSION: Each of the aforementioned sites have different safety requirements depending on the
fire hazards they’re exposed to. As a professional firefighting company, we’ve taken utmost care to
ensure that all the safety requirements of the premises are met. The safety systems were designed to be
pragmatic, statutorily compliant, aesthetically superior and cost effective.
