FOUR YEAR B. TECH. DEGREE END EXAMINATION

THIRD YEAR II-SEMESTER EXAMINATION
CIVIL ENGINEERING
ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURES (AS)
(SCHEME – 2010)
Time: 3 Hours Max. Marks: 70
Note: 1) Answer any Five Questions.
2) All questions carry equal marks

1. A girder having a span of 20 m is simply supported at the ends. It is traversed by a train of

loads as shown in fig. (1) with 50 kN load is leading. Find maximum bending moment under
200 kN load. Also find absolute max BM. (14)

2. Two point loads of 150 kN and 250 kN spaced 4 m apart cross a grader of span 20 m from left
to right with 150 kN load leading. Draw the influence lines for shear force and bending
moments. Also find the values of maximum shear force and bending moments at a section 6 m
from left hand support. (14)

3. A cantilever beam of span 8 m, with constant EI is subjected to a uniformly distributed load of

6 kN/m over the entire span.. Using Castigliano’s theorem, find the deflection and the slope at
the free end. (14)

4. Using the Castigliano’s principle of minimum strain energy, analyse the pin jointed truss
shown in fig. (2). (14)
