DSP Final Project

1. Project intended outcomes:

 To familiarize the students with real life problem solving scenarios.
 To apply their knowledge and skills to solve the real life problems.
 To train students how to define the problem accurately, identify potential causes, define
possible solutions and approach step by step.
 To train the students how to clearly define the work plan and prioritize the work
schedule.
 To apply logical reasoning skills to problem solving situations.
 To prepare the students to establish a balance between work and life while managing
highly complex work situations.
 To prepare students to take initiative within their scope of work.
 To prepare the students to work as an effective team player, sharing responsibility and
delegating wherever necessary

2. Application areas of the final project may be:

 Image / Video signal processing.
 Audio signal processing
 Musical signal processing
 Signal analysis and/or processing of environmental / natural signals (e.g. seismic signals,
wind, solar, etc.)
 Analysis and/or processing of biomedical signals (e.g. ECG, EEG, etc.)
 Signal processing as applied in communications (e.g. analog or digital modulation and
demodulation, encryption/decryption of information, noise analysis, etc.)
 Applications that demonstrate signal analysis and processing theories / principles /
concepts.

3. The project proposal must include the following:

 Abstract (summary of the project proposal, must include the background of the problem
to be solved, the proposed solution and the expected output of the project, including
how will the project be a solution to the problem presented)
 Objectives of the Study (give the general and specific objectives of the project)
 Description of the Project (details of the project; include a block diagram that will
illustrate the flow of the prototype, then discuss the block diagram, including the
materials, equipment, resources (hardware and software) that the project will need;
discuss in this part the scope and limitation of the project, testing and evaluation
methodology).
 Project Flow and Gantt Chart (a flow diagram for the development of the project must
be presented and discussed; also, present a schedule in which significant milestones in
the development of the project must be achieved, write this in the form of a Gantt
Chart).

4. Each group may submit a maximum of three proposals. The group must indicate which of the
proposals submitted is the first, second or third priority. Only the one of the submitted
proposals will be approved to be implemented as the final project according to the priority
indicated by the group. If the first proposal fails, the second priority in the proposals submitted
will be considered for implementation. If the second proposal fails, only the third priority in the
proposal submitted will be considered for implementation, and the group is not allowed to
switch back to the first one. See the schedule of the Final Project to know up to only when a
group is allowed to switch between proposals.

5. The project proposal will be accepted according to the following criteria:

 Originality and Novelty of the Study –
o Is the project originally conceptualized by the group?
o Will the study provide unconventional and unique solution to the problem
presented?
 Realistic and achievable objectives – Do the project objectives clearly stated, realistic
and can be achieved? Will the tests and evaluation methods enough so that the
objectives can be proven to have been met by the study?
 Availability of resources (hardware, software, man-hours) – Do the resources needed for
the development of the prototype available and within the group’s financial and logistic
capabilities? Will the group be able to build the project within the time frame allotted,
considering the other workload of each of the members?
 Clarity and completeness of the proposal – Is the proposal well-documented, giving clear
and concise information on what the group intends to do?
A proposal that is rejected on the grounds of not meeting any of the above criteria can be
resubmitted provided it is still within the period of proposal submission.
