The Horizon SPR application is used to launch SPR at Horizon. It is unique to CNRL and has
been set up to allow SPR users to open any part of Horizon as well as to access training
materials and pictures or to ask for assistance.

The Horizon SPR interface is made up of three areas - the Tree Menu, the Tabs Bar and the
View Portal:

The Tree Menu is the starting point to open SmartPlant Review sessions, access training
materials and images or to request help.
Select a button from the Tree Menu to gain access to any of the following options:

The speed or sensitivity of moving around in SPR can be increased or decreased to suit the
user’s preference.
Entering a high number, such as 5m for the move speed allows for very quick movement around
the SPR session. Entering a low number, such as 0.05m, permits for slow movement around
the session.

The amount of detail displayed while moving around in an SPR session is adjustable.
On the Range Reject tab, ensure that Activate is checked and type 1 through 48 in the Main,
Plan or Elevation fields.

There are several ways to navigate in SPR. This manual contains the three most used methods
of moving around.
The Home and Helicopter buttons are key buttons to remember and will be used often.
The Home button has been programmed to fit the entire plant in the 3D view window.
The Helicopter button rotates the view by positioning a crosshair (shown in the middle of
the screen) over an object when the left mouse button is held down.
Rotate about the crosshair pivot point by moving the mouse around slowly.
SPR BASIC TRAINING MANUAL
North, East and Elevation values are changed by typing new values into their respective fields
or by left-clicking the up and down arrows to their right.
Bearing (the direction you are facing) and Elevation (looking up or down) degrees are changed
by typing new values into their respective fields, left-clicking the up or down arrows to their right
or by left-clicking and dragging the mouse on either compass.
SPR BASIC TRAINING MANUAL
To pan left, right, up or down, hold down the Shift key on the keyboard, left-click in the 3D view
window and move the mouse.
To look up, down or around, hold down the Alt key on the keyboard, left-click in the 3D view
window and move the mouse.
Note: This neither changes the coordinates nor moves forwards or backwards.
The Forward/Back, Left/Right button must be selected on the Toolbar to move forward
or backward with the left mouse alone:
Hold down the left mouse button while moving mouse up or down.
SPR BASIC TRAINING MANUAL
Often, the rates in the Motion Settings window are set too high and should be lowered (refer to
Adjusting the Speed or Sensitivity of Moving Around section).
Having too high of motion rates impedes the use of the on screen Navigation buttons (refer to
Changing the Amount of Detail When Moving Around section) making it difficult to move in
small increments.
When experiencing difficulty moving around using the Left Mouse movement method, ensure
that the correct button is selected on the Toolbar.
Often, the Select button is in use, rather than the Forward/Back, Left/Right button
Page 30 of 140
SPR BASIC TRAINING MANUAL
SPR has the capacity to select and view information about objects including piping, equipment,
instruments, steel and many more.
To resize a window, move the mouse cursor to any edge or corner of the window until a double-
headed arrow appears. Once this arrow appears, left-click the mouse and drag it up, down, left,
right or diagonally to make the window larger or smaller.
Ensure that the Select button is highlighted on the Toolbar or the Navigation Pane at the top
right of the screen.

Left-clicking on an object in the model populates the Properties window with that object’s
information.
Many users prefer to leave the Properties window open on the right monitor.
This keeps the left monitor free for the 3D view window.

DISPLAY SETS
Display Sets are user-defined collections of graphic objects, similar to a filter.
A common use for Display Sets is to permanently save an object search result.
Display Sets can be modified by color and combined to include multiple objects.
For example, a pump and related inlet/outlet piping may be combined into a single Display Set.
To resize a window, move the mouse cursor to any edge or corner of the window until
a double-headed arrow appears. Once the arrow appears, left-click the mouse and
drag it up, down, left, right or diagonally to make the window larger or smaller.
Many users prefer to leave the Properties window open on the right monitor. This
keeps the left monitor free for the 3D view window.

Elements is unchecked.

The display set has changed to reflect the new definition criteria:
SPR BASIC TRAINING MANUAL
This method is a quick way of creating a display set by choosing one object. Therefore, if you
select an object, and it is only a small piece of an equipment or structure, then this method may
not be the best way. However, you can still add more lines to the display set definition.

3. From the Project Manager, rename the display set and press enter. ie. Coker 1.
4. SPR automatically uses “Picked Object(s)”. You can still edit the search criteria if
needed, by adding lines to the definition.

MEASUREMENTS
The Measurement button must be selected on the Toolbar prior to taking Measurements.
Surface Measurements allow users to determine the distance between any two selection
points.
Due to their freehand selection, Surface Measurements are difficult to repeat precisely and are
the least accurate type of measurement in SPR.
Shortest Distance Measurements allow users to determine the shortest distance between any
two objects.
Snaplock Measurements allow users to determine the distance between fixed locations on a
given piece of geometry.
Due to the set locations given for snaplock points, Snaplock Measurements are precise and
repeatable.
For instance, with the One-Click Measurement Mode button selected, the steps for taking a
Surface Measurement are reduced from four steps:
To three steps:

USING FUSION
Fusion is an interface accessible within SmartPlant Review. It allows the user to access
documents, work orders, reference and asset information at their fingertips. This interface
allows users to search for related information without the need to go to a separate source (ie.
McLaren). Fusion allows the user to simply click on an object (ie. equipment, piping) and find
related information in a separate window within SPR.
Launch Fusion within SmartPlant Review: Accessories > Show Related Information
1. The cursor changes and SPR prompts “Select 3D Object” on the bottom left hand
corner of the screen.
2. Left-click on an object (ie. Pipe).
Depending on the type of object you click on, certain types of documents will be available for
piping, equipment, or instrumentation. Currently, the documents and work orders have been
populated with information from Documents Easy Search, and Maximo. In the future, the
Thickness Measurement Location (TML) information will be populated from the Visions program
(currently not available).
The following are examples for PIPING, INSTRUMENTATION, and EQUIPMENT related
information. Left-click on the document to open it. Once your document is open, you can ‘save
as’ to a new location (ie. L:\) or send to printer. Use the ‘Select New Tag’ button to choose a
new object.

Note: Where you select on the pipe line is important to know that only the related ISO drawing
will show for the part of the line that you’ve indicated or clicked on. Therefore, only one ISO will
be available to you per tag number. See below and how it relates to the above ISO example.
