Design of Tower Supporting Structure: Wind Pressure Calculations

The document provides details for designing the support structure of a tower. It lists key dimensions for the tower including its size, number of chimneys, diameter of exhaust pipes, and heights. It explains that the tower will be analyzed along its critical axis which is perpendicular to the exhaust pipes and faces the greatest wind force. Wind pressure calculations are also shown to determine the design wind pressure of 90kg/m2.

DESIGN OF TOWER SUPPORTING STRUCTURE

S.NO. DENOTION OF STRUCTURE 30m 400 33

1 TOWER SIZE 1600X1600 mm

2 NUMBER OF CHIMNEYS 4

3 DIA OF EXHAUST PIPE 400 mm

4 THE HEIGHT OF TOWER 30m

5 THE HEIGHT OF EXHAUAT 1m

PIPE ABOVE THE TOP LEVEL
OF TOWER.

The above details are as shown in the enclosed drawing.

The tower is critical in the axis parallel to 1600mm side which is perpendicular to one
pipe common axis. Therefore the tower is analysed (using staad programme ) along this
critical axis, since the maximum wind force(because maximum surface area) acts along
this critical axis. The same bracing is provided along the other perpendicular axis also.

WIND PRESSURE CALCULATIONS.

BASIC WIND SPEED = Vb = 33 m /sec

RISK COEFFICIENT = K1 = 1.00

RISK COEFFICIENT = K2 = 1.17

TOPOGRAPHY FACTOR = K3 = 1.0

DESIGN WIND VELOCITY = VZ =VB.K1.K2.K3 = 33X1X1.17X1.0 =38.61m/sec

DESIGN WIND PRESSURE = 0.6VZ2 = 0.6 X 38.612 = 894.4 N /M2

SAY 90Kg/M2
