Ph.D. Admissions 2018

Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. Programs at IIIT-NR

Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program beginning in
July 2018. The disciplines in which these programs will be offered are: Computer Science &
Engineering (CSE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Physics, Mathematics,
English, and Management.

Admission Categories
The Institute admits Ph.D. students under the following categories:
A. Institute Scholar: He/she receives assistantship from the Institute. This is restricted to only CSE
and ECE disciplines.
B. JRF/SRF Research Fellow: He/she receives a fellowship from
DST/CSIR/UGC/INSPIRE/DBT/NBHM or any other recognized funding agency.
C. Sponsored Category: He/she is sponsored by his/her employer. The sponsoring organization
must specifically undertake to relieve him/her to enable satisfying residential requirements and
provide facilities for carrying out his/her research in his/her establishment. Sponsoring
organization shall also bear the full expenditure of the candidate like Institute fees, hostel fees,
and any other expenses during his/her Ph.D. program. A student in this category shall work full
time towards the Ph. D. program.
D. Project Staff: This category refers to a student who is working on a sponsored project in the
Institute and is admitted to the Ph.D. Program to work full-time. The remaining duration of the
project at the time of admission should be at least two years. If the project gets completed before
the student completes her/his Ph.D. program, he/she will have to self-finance his/her Ph.D.
studies till completion or till she/he is granted an assistantship/fellowship from the Institute or
any other agency.
E. Institute staff member: A staff member of the Institute may be allowed to enroll in the Ph.D.
program while continuing the duties of his/her service subject to prior permission obtained from
the Director. The Institute does not provide any fellowship. Perusal of Ph.D. under this category
shall be without any prejudice to his/her normal duties.
F. Foreign Nationals/NRIs: Foreign nationals/NRIs will be admitted only under the sponsored
category.
For all above categories, the candidates will be admitted only through the institute’s selection process.

Eligibility Criterion:
 The minimum educational qualifications for admission to the Ph.D. program of the Institute is a
Master's degree with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline.
 The candidate should have first division or equivalent in both Bachelor and Master level degree.
  Candidates applying under Institute Scholar category should be GATE qualified, if they are
applying for Ph.D. in engineering discipline.
 Candidates applying under categories other than Institute Scholar should have qualified
GATE/UGC/CSIR NET/ DST/INSPIRE/DBT/NBHM or any other examination by recognized
funding agency. Such candidates shall not be entitled for any type of Institute Assistantship.
 The equivalence of Master degree and discipline in case of foreign degrees of foreign
nationals/NRIs will be established by the Ph.D. admission committee.

 Display of list of shortlisted candidates: 11th June, 2018
 Written test/Interviews for Ph.D. Programs: 10th July, 2018
 Announcement of Results: 13th July, 2018
 Date of Reporting at IITNR: 23st July, 2018

Application Process
Please read the instructions given in below before filling up the application form.
1. Application form and information brochure (including the admission schedule along with the
important dates) are available on the Institute website at the following link: http://www.iiitnr.ac.in
You are required to send the PDF of the completed and duly signed application form before the
due date (with supporting documents) at Email: [email protected]. Applications
received after the due date shall not be considered.
2. Applicants have to pay a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500/- (Five Hundred Rupees
only), strictly through SBI I-Collect link as below. The applicant must attach a copy of the
payment receipt along with the application:

3. Applicants MUST attach the following documents with their application.
 Self-attested copies of testimonials (Education, Work experience, National level Tests).
 Self-attested copy of Certificate for Reservation category (OBC/SC/ST/PWD), if applicable.
 Copy of Application Fee Payment Receipt.
 For Sponsored/ Project staff/ Institute staff, provide sponsorship letter and no objection
certificate from the organization/institute.
4. Applicants should check the Institute website for results / important announcements/updates
regularly.
5. The institute shall communicate the list of shortlisted candidates through email only. Hence,
applicants should check their email address provided in their application for all important
communications and announcements.
6. Candidates called for Written test/Interview should bring the following documents with them:
 Photo ID Card.
 Printed copy of the application and annexures submitted.
 M.Tech/ME Thesis / dissertation / report.
 Originals of certificates and mark sheets.
 Prints of any two best publications representing his/her research background.
 Contact details of two referees
