Bridge Modelling Step 1: Open Staad - Pro.select New Project. Select Space and Suitable Length Units Eg. M and KN

The document provides steps to model a bridge in Staad.pro software. It involves creating nodes and beams, generating surface meshing for the deck, assigning properties and supports, applying loads, running analysis, and checking deflections. Additional steps include creating decks, defining roadways, generating influence surfaces, applying IRC loading codes, and checking displacements and reactions. The process allows for fully modeling and analyzing a bridge structure in Staad.pro.

Bridge modelling

Step 1: Open Staad.pro.Select New project.

Select space and suitable length units eg. m and Kn
Step 2: Add nodes using co-ordinate system ie.

Click on the Snap Node/Beam button and draw the beams and the girders.
Select Geometry->Translational Repeat from the menu. Select the y direction for the
translational repeat and select enter a Default Step Spacing.
Step 3: Select the Geometry->Generate Surface Meshing tool from the menu. Select four
nodes that outline the deck. Simply click on nodes and select node 1 again to complete the
command. Select the Quadrilateral Meshing option
Step 4: Select General option. Assign property of whole structure. Click Define and add
property as shown in figure. Select Thickness for adding thickness for panel.Assign a
property to each component of structure.
Step 5: Select the General->Support tab on the left and click on the Create button on the
right hand side Data Area. Click on the Add button (i.e create a fixed support entry). Apply
all the loading details as per design
Step 6: Select the General->Load & Definition tab on the left and click on the Load Cases
Details button on the right hand side below Definition. Click on the Add button. Select
loading type i.e. Dead, add also self-weight and assign it to whole structure.

Step 7: Click on the Analysis/Print control tab item on the left and press the Add button.
Click on the Analyze->Run Analysis menu. Use the STAAD Analysis option and click on
the Run Analysis button.
Step 8: If the analysis completed successfully, you should look at the exaggerated deflected
shape of the bridge under the action of self-weight. Try to find out any connectivity
problems etc. You can go to the Post-Processing mode by clicking on
Mode>Postprocessing command in the menu.

Step 9: Select on Bridge Deck option.Select Deck option from menu bar and click create
deck option. Click Add. Create two deck similarly

Select Select deck.Click Define roadway. Click New and define roadways property.
Insert all values of lane width as shown in figure.
Step 10: Select Loading->Influence Surface Generator run analysis.
Click on Run Load Generator. Click General->Design Code as shown in figure

Click Deck select all decks

Click IRC loading

Click Node displacements Insert node value having maximum node displacement from
analysis results of dead load.
Click Support reaction and enter all node values with its direction.
Click Ok and let analysis get process. After analysis click Loading->Create Loading in
Staad Model. Click on the Analysis/Print control tab item on the left and press the Add
button. Click on the Analyze->Run Analysis menu. Use the STAAD Analysis option and
click on the Run Analysis button.
