The rock mass contains three fracture sets within a 200m thick mudstone. Using the RMR system, the overall rock mass was classified with an RMR value ranging from 35 to 38. One fracture set, comprising bedding planes, was assessed to have the most critical orientation for the proposed 10m wide excavation being driven from east to west, with a total rating of 15 after applying adjustment factors.
