Main Objective of The Course: Microprocessors and Interfacing Devices

This document outlines the objectives and contents of a course on microprocessors and interfacing devices. The main objectives are to introduce microprocessors and microcontrollers, including the 8086 and 8051, and teach assembly language programming and peripheral interfacing. The course contains 5 units that cover the 8086 architecture, 8086 assembly programming, interfacing the 8086 with devices like the 8255 PPI, communication interfaces, and an introduction to microcontrollers and the 8051 architecture. The course outcomes are for students to gain knowledge of microprocessor architectures and programming, learn how to interface peripherals, and apply concepts of communication interfaces and embedded applications using microcontrollers.

What is a Microprocessor?
A Microprocessor is a multipurpose, programmable, clock-
driven, register-based electronic device that reads binary
instructions from a storage device called “Memory”,
accepts binary data as input and processes data
according to those instructions, and provides result as
output.
