CIGRE Study Committee A2 (transformers) is active in the design, construction, manufacturing, and operation for all
kinds of power transformers, including industrial, DC converters and phase-shift transformers and for all types of reactors and
transformer components (bushing, tap-changer, etc.) There are 14 working bodies within SC A2: five working Groups (WGs),
one joint Working Group (JWG), two Task Forces (TFs), and six Advisory Groups (AGs). More information is available at

CIGRE Working Group A2-32 (corrosive sulphur in transformer insulation) has as one important task to compile all
relevant information about transformer failures due to copper sulphide formation, and observations of copper sulphide
deposits found whenever equipment has been inspected for other reasons. This is absolutely essential, as a basis for a good
assessment of the extent of the problem, as well as to understand better the influence of materials, design and operating
conditions, and ultimately elucidating the mechanisms of sulphide growth and failures.
All users of equipment are urged to assist in this work by reporting related observations to the working group. A question-
naire form is available for download from the SC A2 web site, on the
