14. (i) Explain resolution of forces into rectangular components.(4) (ii)A
tower guy wire shown below is anchored by means of a bolt at A as
shown. The tension in the wire is 2500 kN. Determine (a) the
components Fx, Fy, and Fz of the force acting on the bolt. (b) the
angles defining the direction of the force. (12)
17. Two trains A and B leave the same station on parallel lines. A starts
with a uniform acceleration of 0.15 m/s 2 and attains the speed of 24
km/hr, after which its speed remains constant. B leaves 40 sec later
with uniform acceleration of 0.30 m/s 2 to attain a maximum speed of
48 km/hr. Its speed also becomes constant thereafter. When will B
overtake A. (16)

18. A ball of mass 2kg moving with a velocity of 3m/s, impinges on a ball
of mass 4 kg moving with a velocity of 1 m/s. The velocities of the
two balls are parallel and inclined at 30 0 to the line of joining their
centers at the instant of impact. If the coefficient of restitution is 0.5.
Find (i) Direction in which the 4kg ball will move after impact. (ii)
velocity of the 5 kg ball after impact. (iii) Direction in which the 2 kg
ball will move after impact. (iv) Velocity of the 2kg ball after impact.

20. (i) A ladder of weight 1000 N and length 4m rests as shown in figure.
If a 750N weight is applied at a distance of 3m from the top of ladder,
it is at the point of sliding. Determine the coefficient of friction
between ladder and the floor. (10)
