Introduction To Publication Design Brief

This course will expand students' knowledge and skills in layout design and introduce them to the process of designing a publication with a deep engagement of content and viewers. Students will learn advanced concepts of color, form, type, space, hierarchy and structure and apply them to create strong and informative layouts for multiple page documents. The course will also cover production and post-production considerations including paper selection for print publications. By the end of the course, students will be able to design a publication for print.

Introduction to Publication Design will offer you the opportunity to reinforce and expand your
knowledge and skills in Layout Design. You will be introduced to the process of designing a
publication, which includes deep engagement with the content and the viewer. You will use
your visual skills to present strong, thoughtful and informative layouts. Developing an
advanced level of understanding of the relationship between Colour, Form, Type, Space,
Hierarchy and Structure will be the core focus of this studio. The studio will also cover
design considerations for creation of multiple page documents as well as production
processes and post-production issues including the availability of different papers for
printing. At the end of this course, you will be able to design a publication for the print
medium.
