Experiment 3.3 – Summing and Difference Amplifiers

Objectives

- Constructing and measuring a summing amplifier


- Constructing and measuring a difference amplifier

Procedures

Step 1: Connect the analog trainer to the power supply and the power supply to the Mains.

Summing Amplifier

Step 2: Implement the following circuit on the main plug in board.

Circuit for single power supply:

Step 3: Turn on the trainer.


Step 4: Connect V2 to +12V terminal.

Step 5: Connect V1 to the variable voltage source.

Step 6: Change the input voltage V1 and measure the output voltage Vo and fill the following table.

Step 7: Draw your conclusions.

Step 8: connect the V1 terminal to the operational amplifier to the ouput terminal of the function
generator. Adjust the function generator to 3Vp-p 1kHz sine wave.

Step 10: Plot the scope picture on the following graph

Step 12: Connect V2 to +12V terminal.


Step 13: Connect V1 to the variable voltage source.

Step 14: Change the input voltage V1 and measure the output voltage Vo and fill the following table.

Step 15: Draw your conclusions.

Step 16: Connect the V1 terminal to the operational amplifier to the ouput terminal of the function
generator. Adjust the function generator to 8Vp-p 1kHz sine wave.

Step 17: Plot the scope picture on the following graph.

Conclusion:

According the experiment done, the group concluded that, Summing amplifier is a type of
operational amplifier configuration that is used to combine the voltages present on the two or more
inputs into a single output voltage. While, a difference amplifier is a type of electronic amplifier that
amplifies the difference between two input voltages but suppresses any voltage in common to the two
inputs.
