1. Minimal DLS – Minimal Dog Leg Severity to achieve the given target(s).
Standard 1.5 – 2.0 deg/30m to avoid problem with running casing and
loggings. Maximum DLS 3deg/30m
2. Low to medium well angle - Generally, it is easier to drill low angle well
i.e around 30-40 deg than high angle well
4. Shallow kick off – Design to kick off the trajectory as shallow as possible.
Generally, kick off point is selected after the surface casing has been set
5. Types of BHA to be used – Consider the most cost effective BHA to drill
the hole sections
6. Contingency for smaller hole size – In the event hole problem dictates,
casing will be set shallower than design.
DRILL BITS
DRIL BITS
Selection of correct drill bit is essential to ensure the hole is drilled within the
planned time
Nozzles size selection for TFA is important for rate of penetration (ROP) and bit face
cleaning
Hydraulic calculation is also done to optimize both ROP and hole cleaning to avoid
hole packing off
MT bit – for surface hole & very soft formation (clays), drill junks
TCI bit – for intermediate hole, short section, and soft formation
PDC – maximize ROP, long section, medium to hard formation, expensive

DRILLING HAZARDS
Stuck pipe :-
▪ Differential sticking.
▪ Clay swelling.
▪ Under gauge hole.
▪ Well bore instability.
▪ Key seating.
▪ Etc.
Lost circulations.
Equipment problems such as failures.
Presence of shallow gas.
Typical Drilling Risks and Mitigation Plan
Drill top hole (pilot hole if first well) 24hrs 2hrs M/U BHA and depend on depth
Set & cement surface casing 6-8 jts/hr Addt’l 6hrs pump cmt + 4hrs WOC
Install & test BOP 24hrs N/U 12 hrs +12 hrs p/test
Drill intermediate hole ROP 15-25m/hr Addt’l time P/U dps (8hrs) + RIH (10hrs) + POOH (10hrs)
and wiper trip (24hrs)
Set intermediate casing 12-14 jts/hr Addt’l 4hrs pump cmt + WH (6hrs)

INPUT TO FACILITIES
Input to facilities
O Drilling Interface with Facilities
O Types of Rig to be used for platform design, number of slot requirement and
well spacing
O Jack up rig requires small platform/jacket due to restriction on rig reaching the furthest slot
O For big platform, normally tender assisted or platform is used
O Water depth also determine the types of rig to be used and affects the platform design
O Platform height and deck elevations - wellhead deck, x/mas tree deck and main deck
O Wellhead orientation
O Input for wellhead orientation essential for route of flowline and production manifold
O Flowline size
O Tubing size and x/mas tree flow ID/OD required for the design of flowline to interface at the
x/mas tree
O Fluid to be produced – oil, gas, water
O Conductor design
O Size of conductor
O Setting depth – refusal depth (piling method), min competent formation to avoid subsidence and
hold weight of wellhead, BOP and uncemented casing
O Type of shoe
O Offshore – DDS (Driven deviated shoe)
O Piling, drill and set, or drill and pile
Objectives;
• To develop the Proven gas and condensate from RS-
8 sands (Upper, Middle and lower)

Magtymguly Drilling Platform – A (MDP-A)
Drilling Concept
T20 will assist in installing the Jacket MDP-A (9 slots drilling
platform).
Batch Drilling and Completion will be adopted.
For Phase 1A, only six (6) Slots will be piled driven with 26”
Conductors to refusal.
1st well (MDP-A1) will be drilled to TD and suspended at 7” Liner.
This to ascertain the overall drainage points.
18-5/8” casing, 13-3/8” casing , 9-5/8” casing and 7” liner setting
points for the other five (5) wells will be batch drilled and
cemented in place.
The completions operations will be done after finish drilling all of
the six (6) wells. (PROVISIONAL)
