Do you see yourself without technology?

The impact in technology in our lives, today, is unmeasurable. We use

technology every day, in different ways and we do it to harming up our lives
or the society we live in. But what we are used to call modern technology,
technically it is not as new as we think.

For instance, if we have a great smartphone today we can figure out that it
is just an advancement of an ordinary mobile phone that we had years ago.
Or look at a train today we used to use steam powered trains and now we
have electronic trains just to get faster to some place. The technology
evolves, but it finds old ways and old technologies to evolve.

We use technology every day, in order to fulfil specific tasks or specific

interests. We have specific needs and we want to have faster technologies.
What is Technology?

Technology refers to the practical application of scientific knowledge for a

purpose. It also includes the capability and skills required to apply the
knowledge.

Technology enhances the usefulness of goods and services in a safe

manner. It aims at creating value. Technology can be both material and
non-material (virtual). Technology includes instruments, tools, machines,
and other devices that benefit human life.

Technology may include simple items such as clothing, zip, housing, and
complex items such as airplanes, robots, etc. Even the discovery of fire
during stone age, and the process of producing light, heat, and cooking
food are the examples of technology.

The non-material (virtual) tools and machines such as computer software,

internet, etc. are also considered technology.

Advantages
Improved communication advanced communication technology
tools;
Easy access to information at anytime and anywhere;
Improved housing and lifestyle most of the items that we have in
our homes today are automated (if we compare with houses in the 70
s, 80s, 90s);
Improved entertainment - we have more video games now, good
music to listen and visual systems like smart TV's;
Social Networking great improvement for individuals and
businesses;
Convenience in education online and mobile education;
 Convenience of traveling very important in our lives and in the
business world;
Changed the health industry modern technology in hospitals,
reducing the mistakes made by doctors and evolving the patients
treatments;
Efficiency and productivity helping businesses increasing
production, saving time and money in the industry;
Encourages innovation and creativity it is very easy to start a job
today (while at home).

What are the advantages of Technology?

The advantages of technology are discussed below:

1. Increased food output: We depend on food for our living. With the
introduction of methods and techniques of cultivation, human-beings
are able to increase food output. The modern irrigation technologies
has helped to cultivate lands that were otherwise considered barren.
The agriculture equipment such as tractor helps the farmer in his
farming.
2. Increased industrial output: As a result of introduction of technology
in the process of producing goods, there has been tremendous
increase in the industrial output. The automation of industries
processes has resulted in processing tasks effectively and
efficiently. Large industries make good use of engineering technology
for large scale production of goods.
3. Business growth: Technology has positively impacted business
activities involving manufacturing, selling, marketing, distribution,
recording, etc. Technology has touched almost every sphere of
business activities. Businesses need to make wide variety of
mathematical calculations for various purposes such as counting,
estimation cost and profit, etc. Prior to the introduction of calculators,
all these mathematical calculations were done manually. With the
introduction of computers, large business data are effectively
 processed and stored in computers. The growth of eCommerce
business is an excellent example of how Information Technology can
benefit our life.
4. Comfort: Technology had made human life comfortable. Everything
that we see and use in our daily life is the gift of technology. The
clothes we wear, the house we live, the car we travel, the bridge and
flyovers, the mobile phone we carry, the fan, etc. are all examples of
successful implementation of technology.
5. Better utilization of resources: Modern tools and equipment has
helped us to utilize the natural resources at optimum level. For
example, the irrigation technologies has enabled us to make better
utilization of water resource in the field of agriculture. Hydel power
plants, thermal power plants, nuclear power plants, etc. uses natural
resources to generate power.
6. Ease in travelling: The invention of wheel is perhaps the most
important technological discovery in human history. Automobiles,
trains, etc. are powered by engine and run on wheels.
7. Improved communication: Printing press, internet, telephone, email,
and other communication technologies has helped us to
communicate on global scale.
8. Education: Virtual classes are a delivered at many schools. E-
learning is a relatively new concept. Students make use of internet
technology to download important study materials in the form of text,
audio and videos.
9. Healthcare: Technology has revolutionized the healthcare industry.
The various diagnostic tools such as x-ray machines, blood pressure
monitoring machine, glucose level measuring machine, etc. has made
possible accurate diagnosis of health related problems. Accurate
diagnosis of disease results in faster and effective treatment of the
patient.
10. Emerging technologies: Emerging technologies such as Information
Technology, bio-technology, artificial intelligence, etc. are among the
most important technologies of modern times. The introduction of
 computers, internet, smartphones, etc. have deep impact on common
people. Much research are being conducted in the field of artificial
intelligence intelligence.

Advantages of the
technology
The very useful technology when the more closely observed,
one can discover new things. These innovations can help us
in everyday life. For example, when radio wave was
discovered, it has subsequently begun to broadcast. The
same principle for television is also applied. Electricity is the
most valuable discovery, without which existence of the
modern world is impossible. If no one had discovered that
could generate electricity, we probably would not be made
at this stage of evolution today. Technologies improve our
lives and allow us to evolve. It allowed the scientists of our
time to send astronauts to the moon.
In the modern industrial world, machines do most of the
agricultural and industrial labor. Workers produce more
goods than a century ago and work less. Many people in
industrialized countries have a higher standard of living.
They live longer and are healthier because they have,
among others, better nutrition and an easier lifestyle. They
have more time to exercise and work more safely.
Technology has many advantages. It simplifies everyday
life. Take the example of a washing machine. Even nowadays
to imagine how we took it to wash his clothes before his
invention. But it was hard work! Almost all popular
technologies ranging from the car phone has the ultimate
aim to reduce the effort of humans.
A second advantage is the communication and
mobility. Modern communication systems have drastically
reduced the time of communication between two
people. Today, communication between different countries is
almost instantaneous. This greatly helps the development of
a true global village.Travel time is also significantly
reduced. Today, we can taste the fresh fruits and vegetables
that yesterday were in their orchards on the other side of the
world.
World tourism has grown accordingly. The technology has
also increased the productivity of almost all industries
around the world. The more we produce, using fewer
resources and a greater number of people.

Great Discoveries In All Industries

Technology advances show people a more efficient way to do things,

and these processes get results. For example, education has been
greatly advanced by the technological advances of computers.
Students are able to learn on a global scale without ever leaving their
classrooms. Agricultural processes that once required dozens upon
dozens of human workers can now be automated, thanks to advances
in technology, which means cost-efficiency for farmers. Medical
discoveries occur at a much more rapid rate, thanks to machines and
 computers that aid in the research process and allow for more intense
educational research into medical matters.

Cost Efficiency

Cost efficiency is an advantage in some ways and a disadvantage in

others. As technology improves on existing processes and showcases
new ways to accomplish tasks, machines are able to produce the same
-- if not more -- output than humans in certain industries. This results
in cost savings for business owners, allowing them to invest in growth
in other areas of the business, which contributes on a positive level to
the economy as a whole.

The convenience of Traveling

Modern transportation technology makes it very easy to travel long

distances. Transport is a very important both in our lives and in the
business world. Transportation technology has evolved with years. In
the past, it used to be slow and expensive to move long distances.
Nowadays, I can cover a 10 miles distance within a few minutes or
hours using electric trains or airplanes.

Social Networking

Modern technology has made it simple to discover our old friends

and also discover new people to network with. This is a benefit to
both individuals and businesses. Many businesses have embraced the
social networking technology to interact with their customers. Users
of social networks can share information with friends, live chat with
them and interact in all sorts of ways.
Changed the health industry

Nowadays most hospitals have implemented modern technology in

surgical rooms, this has reduced on mistakes made by doctors.
Humans can easily make mistakes because of work overload and
stress factors. Also, the business community has developed health
applications which can enable us to monitor our health and weight.
These applications can be used on mobile phones, so users can have
them at any time of the day.

Disadvantage
Dependency
The more advanced society becomes technologically, the more people
begin to depend on computers and other forms of technology for
everyday existence. This means that when a machine breaks or a
computer crashes, humans become almost disabled until the problem
 is resolved. This kind of dependency on technology puts people at a
distinct disadvantage, because they become less self-reliant.

Less Value In Human Workers

At the same time, human workers retain less value, which is a

disadvantage of technological advances. Because machines automate
processes and do the work of 10 people with one computer,
companies find they don't need to employ as many people to get the
job done. As machines and computers become even more advanced
and efficient, this will continue to be a growing disadvantage of
technology and an issue that has a global impact.

Increased loneliness

Social Isolation is on the increase, people are spending more time

playing video games, learning how to use new modern technologies,
using social networks and they neglect their real life. Technology has
replaced our old way of interacting. If a user can easily interact with
100 friends online, they will feel no need to going out to make real
friends which at a later stage leads to loneliness.

Competency

Increased dependency on modern tools like calculators has

reduced on our creativity. You can find a student when they can
solve a very simple mathematical equation without using a
calculator. This affects the way this student uses their brains and
reduces the level of creativity.

World destruction weapons

Modern technology has been the main aid in the increasing and
endless wars. It aids the manufacturing of modern war weapons which
will require testing. So when these weapons get into the hands of
criminals, they will use them for their selfish reasons.
 Affects Workplace Relationships:

Employees communicate via cell phones, text messages, email or

virtual video conferencing tools. This type of communication
technology eliminates face-to-face communication. Interpersonal
communications are important in building workplace relationships
because employees will get a chance to know each other in person,
some times they can even share non-work related information, this
type of interaction is killed by communication technology tools.
Employees become more reserved and self-centered; they get buried
into their work which can be of great harm to a business.
 In conclusion
Now that we have seen some of the impacts of technology in modern
life, it is our responsibility to use technology to improve our lives but
we also have to make sure that we preserve our society and
environment, if we dont control the usage of technology, we shall end
up harming both the society and environment. Then for those seeking
for jobs, i advice you to acquire different technological skills, make
sure that you can create or invent something new using these new
technological skills, being employed is just a step most of us have
taken, but it does not guarantee financial security, you can use
technology to create a small business.
