4 - Half Wave Rectifier

This document describes an experiment on a half wave rectifier circuit. The objectives are to calculate and draw the DC output voltages without and with a smoothing capacitor. The circuit includes a diode, resistors, and capacitors. The procedure measures the input and output voltages both with and without filtering as the capacitor value is increased. It also calculates the ripple factor to analyze the smoothing effect of different capacitors.

4- Procedure:
1. Connect the circuit as shown in Fig.1, adjust the power
supply at 10 V.
2. Measure the input voltage V1 and the output voltage V2 using
both the voltmeter and the oscilloscope.

With voltmeter 10 Va.c Vd.c
With oscilloscope Vp-p VP-P

3. Draw the input waveform, Vi , and the output waveform, Vo

4. Calculate: 1) Maximum voltage of the input signal

6. Connect the circuit as shown in Fig.2.

7. Measure Vout with voltmeter as a function of the capacitance
value of the smoothing capacitor CL=0.47F, 4.7 F, 100 F
and at the same time measure the ripple voltage VP-P using
C.R.O.
