Science Lesson Plan 1

1. The lesson plan is for a grade 1 science class about seed parts. 2. Students will dissect soaked bean seeds in groups to observe and identify the internal parts, including the seed coat, embryo, food storage, and first leaf. 3. Videos and worksheets with varying levels of difficulty will be used to engage students and help them understand and label the key parts of the bean seed.

Date: 29th -Feb. -2017 Class & grade: grade 1 No.Ss: 32 students

Unit: Growing plants Lesson: seed parts Time from: 11:25 to: 12:15

PURPOSE:

1. Students will have dissected a bean seed by observing closely, using simple
equipment.
2. Identify the parts of the bean seed: (seed coat, embryo, leaf, food storage).
GROUPING: What is the group size? How is every student going to be able to participate? Will you be differentiating
and how?

Each group will contain 6 students

Each pair in group will have a soaked bean seed and a hand lens, as each pair will investigate
the seed parts by themselves.
Activities:

High students:
1- They will have 2 types of pre-soaked seeds, as they have to identify the same seed parts.
Instructions will be written for them and which they have to follow.
2- They will have their worksheet to set their predictions and answer some questions
related to the seed parts (appendix 1).

Middle students:
1- Each one will get pre-soaked bean seed and they have to distinguish seed parts.
2- The instructions will be written for them and teacher will help them to follow the
correct steps if needed.
3- They will have their worksheet to set up their predictions and answer some questions
related to the seed parts (appendix 2).

Low students:
1- Each one will get pre-soaked bean seed and they have to distinguish seed parts.
By teacher assistance helping.
2- They will have their worksheet to set their predictions and draw seed parts after
they open their seeds (appendix 3).

Students Prior Knowledge:

Students knew:
1. What does seed mean?
2. What are the needs that seeds need to grow up? which are (sunlight, soil, suitable temperature,
air, and water)
3. Students have identified on different types of seeds that they can see in their daily life.
4. Students knew the parts of a plant (leaves, stem, seed, root and flower if there).
5. Students have a background about plants importances in our life.
6. Students have read about a largest bank that preserve the seeds in the world and why?

Possible Problems:
- Students may harm the seed while peel the coat or while open it.
- Students may not have enough hand lenses.
- Students may cant peel the seed coat.

Solutions for the Possible Problems:

- There are extra soaked bean seeds.
- It could be two hand lenses in each group that students can share them.
- If they cant peel the seed coat they can provided with teacher assistance help.

Misconceptions:
- Students may not be able to identify seed parts and their places exactly

Solutions for Misconceptions: The teacher will make different activities that help students to
distinguish each part in the bean seed such as matching, drawing or show a video
