Introduction

Resin Casting is a super fantastic method of making your own unique designs especially when it is made
up of recyclable materials. Resin casting is a method of plastic casting where a mold is filled with a
liquid synthetic resin, which then hardens. It is primarily used for small-scale production like industrial
prototypes and dentistry. It can be done by amateur hobbyists with little initial investment, and is used in
the production of collectible toys, models and figures, as well as small-scale jewelry production.
Resin casting is an exciting and fun craft that allows you to embed or encase almost any object in crystal-
clear plastic. The basic materials needed to get started in resin crafting are easy to find and relatively
inexpensive.

Objectives

1. To be able to utilize the recyclable materials and make them into a nice-looking cast art project.
2. To be able to sharpen your creativity skills.
3. To have fun being a college student under Engr. Patrimonio.

Materials

Clear Premix
Hardener
A mold
Recyclable materials you wish to embed

Procedures

1. Make your own mold.

2. Plan your own design.


3. Assemble all of your materials.

4. Using the recyclable materials you have, create them according to your design and join them
together as one to avoid separation during pouring of resin.
5. Mix the Hardener and the Premix (1:100) properly.

6. Start by pouring a thin layer of resin into the mold. Let it set for a bit.

7. Now, place your design to the thin layer of resin and carefully pour the other half of the mix. You
can also add silver dust to improve its output.
8. Let it cure. Set the resin molds in a safe place where they won't be disturbed, and protect them
from dust by covering them with a clean, upturned box. They will need to cure at least overnight,
depending upon the resin you used and the thickness of your pieces.

9. You may be able to remove them from the mold prior to the complete curing time, but be careful
to not damage them, as they may still be slightly soft or sticky.

10. Enjoy your project!


Recycling helps protect the environment. Recycling reduces the need for extracting (mining,
quarrying and logging), refining and processing raw materials. All of these create substantial air and
water pollution. As recycling saves energy it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to
tackle climate change.

Understanding the basics of how casting resin can be changed from a liquid to a solid
will enable you to successfully create a wide variety of both practical and fanciful projects that will
last indefinitely!
