INTASC STANDARD #8
The teacher understands and uses a
variety of instructional strategies to
encourage learners to develop deep
understanding of content areas and
their connections, and to build skills to
apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
8(A)
The teacher uses appropriate strategies and resources to
adapt instruction to the needs of individuals and groups of
learners.
EVIDENCE
The real-word problems were specifically selected with
the knowledge that the students were excited for and
interested in Halloween. By using real world contexts,
students were able to apply their addition and
subtraction knowledge in situations that they could relate
to. Math ball was selected as the classroom activity, as I
was able to differentiate the problems to challenge the
needs of the students. I was able to ask the higher-level
students more difficult problems that challenged them,
and I was able to ask the students that were on the lower
end simpler problems. This allowed all of the students to
be challenged and feel included, all while being excited
and eager to answer.
