Mrs. Chidester's class learned about the letters X and Y and read books about turkeys and Thanksgiving. In math, they worked on patterns, skip counting by 10s, and writing numbers from 0 to 10. In science, they discussed the five criteria for determining if something is living or nonliving by examining if it moves, breathes, needs food/water, grows, and reproduces. Next week's schedule includes P.E., art, and a mystery reader while the school will be closed for Thanksgiving and fall break from November 22nd to 24th.

What We Did, Whats Coming Up:
Language Arts:
This week in our literacy block, we learned the letters X and Y. We read lots of
books about turkeys and Thanksgiving. We paused our writing piece about our
favorite place to go and to write about things that we are thankful for. Our word
wall continues to grow! We have our names and colors on the wall and we
added the words: I, like, want, and my. Our shared poem this week was about
a long legged turkey. At the end of the week we got to make some long
legged turkeys of our own!

Math:
In math workshop this week, we had centers involving turkeys! Students rotated to Count the Room
to count 10 frames, color by number with tissue paper, make a pattern shape, or roll a number cube
and stamp the matching dot number. We have to started to look at patterns in skip counting by
10s. We continue to work on being able to write numbers from 0 to 10 independently and will begin
to look at teen numbers soon.

Science:
In our content block, we discussed the 5 essential questions we must ask ourselves to determine if
something is living or nonliving: 1. Does it move by itself? 2. Does it breathe? 3. Does it need food and
water? 4. Does it change/grow? 5. Can it make more/reproduce? We even had some challenging
questions of whether a seed and an apple were living or nonliving! Next week we will compare and
contrast Thanksgiving in the past to the present.
