Laika

Laika was the first animal to orbit the Earth. She was a Soviet space dog, launched into space in 1957 aboard Sputnik 2, where she circled the globe before dying in orbit. Laika helped pave the way for human spaceflight and demonstrated that living creatures could survive the launch and weightlessness of space.
