Cell Model

The student is asked to create a candy animal cell model to demonstrate their understanding of cell organelles and their functions. They must include 11 specific organelles in their model and fill out a key matching each organelle to its function. Additionally, the student must write a paragraph describing how 3 organelles help butterflies survive at the cellular level, and compare and contrast butterfly and plant cells. The completed project will demonstrate what the student has learned about cells and their importance in animal survival processes.

CELL PROJECT
Cell Model
Purpose: To show Ms. Masters what you have learned about cells in a
creative and scientific way. The purpose is also to show how they are vital in
butterflies and other animals being able to complete processes necessary for
survival.
Method: Make a model of an animal cell.
Directions:
1.) You will create a candy animal cell using the candy/materials
provided!
2.) Before getting the materials or starting the model, you must use your
notes/worksheets to fill in the function of each organelle on your Cell
Description and Function Key. The number next to the organelle will be
written in your model so the key corresponds with your organelles! For
example, if the cell membrane is 1, label this 1 in your model.
3.) You will also write a paragraph that answers the following:
a. In a paragraph, describe three organelles that butterflies have
within their animal cells and how they help your butterfly carry
out the necessary processes for survival. Also, at the cellular
level, compare and contrast how your butterflies cells are similar
and different to a plant cell. Explain your reasoning.
4.) Then, you may begin working on your project and turn in Tues.

ANIMAL CELL must contain the following 7. ribosomes

organelles:
8. cytoplasm
1. cell membrane 9. Golgi apparatus
2. nucleus 10. Nucleolus
3. vacuoles 11. Centrioles
4. mitochondria
5. lysosome
6. endoplasmic reticulum
