Moment Connection Design for PCJC

The moment connection between a beam and embedded plate in a parking garage is designed to resist critical forces from structural analysis. Calculations follow AISC 360-10 and ASCE 7-10 standards. Shear is resisted by 3 bolts which are checked for shear and bearing capacity. Bolts also provide slip resistance. Block shear capacity of the joint is sufficient. A fillet weld between the angle and plate transfers shear loads with adequate strength. Moment effects are resisted through tension and compression in a couple formed by a plate welded to the embedded plate, which is also checked to have sufficient capacity. All components meet strength requirements.
