Lesson idea implementation:

First, students will be introduced to the standard so they are aware of what the objective of the lesson is.
Then, they will watch a short video from BrainPop about the American Revolution. While watching the video,
students will be encouraged to write down some key events that happened. Once the video is over, students
will be grouped into pairs. Working in pairs, students will create a timeline using Readwritethink.org, placing
events of their choice from the American Revolution in order by date. The only requirement is that students
have 7 or more events on their timeline. The teacher will monitor students to make sure everyone is on task,
but the students will be doing most of the work. Once students are finished, they will present their timelines
to the class. It is expected that this project will take 2 days to complete.

Student learning will be assessed with a quiz after presentations are finished. It will include a matching
section and some short answer questions. The final product will be used to inform students by giving them a
visual aid to go back and review when they need to study the American revolution. To extend student
learning to a higher level, I might ask questions like What do you think would have happened if we didnt win
the American revolution? How would that affect us today? Would it have any affect? Students will
receive positive oral feedback about their presentations as well as a graded rubric.
