B 03 01 Operation Guide Parameters Material Management

There are two ways to register materials in Dr.ABE: by directly entering new material information, or by converting existing material data from an AP100 system. Material can be registered by adding new types and sheets, or by importing material codes or names from an AP100. This allows seamless transfer of material data between systems.

3-1. Material Management

There are two ways of registering material management.

Important:
On Dr.ABE, use Sheet Code for identifying materials.
This section mainly describes how to register "Sheet Code".

1. There are two ways of registering material

management, by registering new material
information on Dr.ABE or by converting
AP100 material information.
In either case, first, select Material
Management from the main window.

2. To register new material information on

Dr.ABE, select the Mat. Type Information
or Sheet Information tab, and select the
New icon.
For details, see the next item "How to
Register New Machines on Dr.ABE".

3. Alternatively, to convert AP100 material

information, select the Get Data from SDD
or MiniSDD icon.
For details, see the next item "There are
also two ways of converting AP100 material
information".

How to Register New Materials on Dr.ABE

Registering Material Type Information

1. To register new material information on

Dr.ABE, first select the Mat. Type
Information tab. Register the materials
based on the material types listed here.
Check whether or not the type of material to
list as the new material information is in the
list. If it is not in the list, select the New icon
to add the new material type.

2. To register new material type, enter

Material Type, Specific Gravity and
Tensile Strength as shown in the figure on
the left, and click the Add button.

Registering Material Information

3. When you have finished registering Mat.

Type Information, next select the Sheet
Information tab.
From here on, enter items by selecting the
New icon.

Enter the following items, and click the Add

button to register the items.

Sheet Code
Enter an easily recognizable name.
Example: SPC1.6-2438X1219

Material Type
Select the material type. If there are no
candidate material types, return to the Mat.
Type Information tab, and enter a new
material type.

Thickness
Select the thickness. To register a new
thickness, enter the thickness directly here.

B-57
3-1. Material Management

Material Name
Select the material name. When a new
material type and thickness have been
entered, enter the material name here. (Ex)
SPC1.6

Sheet Size X Y
Enter the X and Y sizes of the material.

Q'ty
Enter the quantity. When Decrease Sheet
Quantity When Save NC is set at System
Setting, the quantity is decreased when NC
data is saved.
Entering a single-byte "*" for quantity sets an
infinite number of sheets.

Price
Enter the price. (This item can be omitted.)

Grain Direction
Enter the roll grain.
Parts can be placed so that the X direction of
patterns made on the AP100 is parallel to the
grain by specifying Use Sheet's Grain
Direction or Use Sheet's Grain Angle +-180
Degrees as the parts rotation instruction.

Comment
Any comment can be entered. (This item can
be omitted.)

Special Information
Coated and Colored Steel can be specified.
(Note, however, that this item is not used on
laser systems.)

Sheet Type
Normally, select one of Standard, Remnant or
Sketch. Skeleton materials are the leftovers
after nesting, and are automatically registered
by Dr.ABE.

Material Type Priority

Enter the priority when materials are selected
automatically by Dr.ABE. (1 is highest priority.)
This item is enabled when Do Not Consider
Utilization is selected at Nesting Preference.

Sheet Profile
Displays a profile view of the standard,
remnant, skeleton, and sketch materials.

3-1. Material Management

There are also two ways of converting AP100 material

information.
1. To convert AP100 material information,
select the Get Data from SDD or MiniSDD
icon.

2. When material codes (Parameter Manager

- Material Manager - Material (Size)
Information) are currently registered to
AP100, select Only downloaded material
code (Sheet Code) of AP100 in the figure
on the left.
For details, see the next item "Loading and
Converting AP100 Material Code".

3. When no material codes are registered to

AP100, new materials can be automatically
generated from AP100 material names and
registered. So, select Download AP100
material type, then register ...
Registration Window. in the figure on the
left.
For details, see the next item "Generating
and Converting Material Code from AP100
Material Names."

Loading and Converting AP100 Material Code

1. To convert from AP100 material code, select
Only download material code (Sheet
Code) of AP100 in the figure on the left.

2. For example, when material codes are

currently registered at Parameter Manager
AP100 - Material Manager - Material (Size)
Information on the AP100, these material
codes are converted as they are in the
Dr.ABE window.

Note: Material codes cannot be selected at

conversion. Delete any unwanted material
codes after conversion.

Generating and Converting Material Code from AP100 Material

Names
1. When generating material codes from the
material types and thicknesses currently
registered on the AP100, select Download
AP100 material type, then register ...
Registration Window. in the figure on the
left.

2. The window on the left is displayed. To

practice conversion here, click the Sheet
Size Definition button.

3. The Sheet Size Define window on the left is

displayed.

4. For practice, delete all of the pre-registered

definitions. Click each of the items enclosed
by a square in the figure on the left, and
delete them by pressing the Delete button
on the keyboard. Also, deselect the On/Off
checkbox.

Note:
If registration of all material information has
finished, and you already understand this
operation, do not delete the definitions here.

5. When the window changes as shown in the

figure on the left, enter the following:
Size X 1829
Size 914
Initial Q'ty 100
and
for Initial Sheet Code, double-click the
sheet code item, and create an easy to view
format by inserting "-" (hyphen), "x" or other
operators between codes with the item
selected.

Example:
Using Material, Thickness, Size X
and Size Y
[Mat][Thickness]-[SizeX]X[SizeY]

6. When you have finished making the

definition, select the On/Off checkbox for
that item. This enables this definition.

For example, in the case of

[Mat][Thickness]-[SizeX]X[SizeY],
since [Thickness] becomes the thickness
and [SizeX][SizeY] becomes the size, the
number is expressed as "1.0" and "1.00"
when [1] and [2] is set, respectively, at
Digital Number behind Decimal Point.
Likewise, for size, the size is expressed as
"1829" and "1829.0" when [0] and [1] is set,
respectively, at Digital Number behind
Decimal Point.
Normally, you should leave the settings at
their defaults. (Thickness is 1, Size is 0)

Finally, click the OK button to end definition

of the sheet size.

7. The material codes for Dr.ABE are

generated from the material type and
thickness currently registered to the AP100
SDD according to this definition. When
there are material codes that do not require
registering, deselect the Generate
checkbox in the figure on the left.
Last of all, click the OK button.

One-point Advice:
You can also select items to delete in Step 8
without deselecting the checkboxes for
these items at this stage.
