4. A motor drives two loads. One has rotational motion and coupled to the motor
through the gears with transmission coefficient a=10 and = 90%. Load has
moment of inertia of 10 kg-m2 and torque of 10 N-m. other load has translational
motion and consist of 1000 Kg weight to be lifted upward at the speed of 1.5
m/sec. coupling between this load and the motor has an efficiency of 85%. Motor
has inertia of 0.2 Kgm2 and runs at a constant speed of 1420 rpm. Determine
equivalent referred to motor shaft and equivalent load torque referred tom
motor shaft.

T= -100-0.1 N, N-m, calculate the initial and final equilibrium speed.

24. A rolling mill driven by the DC motor operates on a reverse duty cycle. Motor
field current is maintained at constant rated value. Moment of inertia of the
motor shaft is 10000 kg-m2. Duty cycle consist of following intervals.
25. A motor equipped with a flywheel as to supply a load torque of 600 N-m. for 10
sec followed by no load period long enough for the flywheel to regain its full load
speed. It is desired to limit the motor torque 450 N-m. What should be the
moment of inertia of flywheel? No load speed of the motor is 600 rpm & it has a
slip of 8% at rated torque of 450 N-m. (Assume J of motor= 10Kg-m2).
26. A motor has a heating time constant of 45 minutes and cooling time constant of
75 minutes. The motor has final steady state temperature rise of 50oC while
delivering its continuous rating of 25kW
i) Determine the load the motor can deliver for 15 minutes so that the
temperature rise does not exceed 50oC.
ii) The motor delivers 35 kW for a period of 15 minutes followed by a shutdown
for 15 minutes. Determine the maximum temperature rise.
27. Write short notes on the Steady state stability of an electric drive.
28. A motor has a heating time constant of 90 minutes. If the temperature rise of the
motor is 100oC when it is continuously loaded with its rated load. Determine the
temperature rise of the motor after 2 hour of its rated load. If the temperature
after 2 hour reaches the maximum permissible temperature (final steady state
temperature with rated load applied continuously) after it is overloaded,
determine the permissible overloading? Assume constant loss=0.5 of full load
copper loss.
29. Derive the formula for overloading factor, when a motor is subjected to
i) Short time duty
ii) Intermittent periodic duty.
